Hi all,

Just came back from a trip to Bangkok and it was really an eye opener to me. Too bad DC out of batt if not can take some pictures. Went to weekend market and could not believe what I had seen, rows and rows of different types of hamster from syrian to dwarf. They are selling dirt cheap and sooooo much to choose from. Too bad could not buy back if not..I sure buy alot. Defintely must go if u r planning to visit BKK.

wow, okay!
yeah! you must have lots of nice memories then!

but are the hamsters kept in humane conditions? i just felt that perhaps these markets would sell hamsters solely for commercial reasons and would not care too much about their welfare. hope the hammies there are doing well...

I'm surprised that bangkok sells hamsters, when I went to bangkok a few years back, there was no sigh of a single :hamster1:! It must have taken u a lot of will power not to "smuggle" one of the cuties back

If anyone's going bangkok, please take some pics for us to see wat its like! (remember to charge ur digital cam ;D)

:scratchchin:OH! Seen a weekend market in Bangkok selling pets. It's called "Cha-Tu-Chat" weekend market. There are many ranges of wholesale products selling there, from clothings, leather, jeans to pets section. Each section divided into different lines of shops. To go to pets section, just walked straight to the back near to end of the market. :scared:Very warm & :crowded:narrow inside. They do sell hamsters at very cheap prices. :hypnotized:about $1.50 USD=$2.50SGD each for syrian. but must bargain! My friend bought 1 back to Singapore. But she need to :eek:declared to the custom & airline for transporting animal back to Singapore. Therefore although it is very cheap , there is a high rise u got to face when u transport the poor animal back to your country. Normally , the poor hammy will be transfer to the lower part of the air-craft. If you are travelling more than 7 hours , the poor animal may just :faint: :faint: :faint:die off becos of lack of oxygen.

For my friend's hammy case, since Bangkok to Singapore took less than 2 hours to reach, the hammy managed to reach the final destination successfully :applause: :applause: :applause:. Not sure if she have paid for any additional fee for transporting small animal back here. will check out with her. :scratchchin: :scratchchin: :scratchchin:
