Poor circulation or blood clots, I would imagine.
Either that, or cotton fluff was involved...

Poor thing :( I hope cotton nesting material wasn't involved. If it was, this shows you why HH doesn't recommend it! ![]()

If they turned black and fell off, for humans that's frostbite.... but why would that happen to a hamster????? No critisism intended, but if he/she had frostbite then that means something wasn't right.

This can happen to humans in cases of blood clots, poor circulation, diabetes, and a number of other diseases. The turning black only indicated the tissue is dead.

Ohhh ok. I've only heard about it in frostbite cases.

The human body is a great mystery capable of doing many a strange things! Have you seen the man who re-grew his nose on his forehead after he lost his original to frostbite!!! …..OK totally off topic
BAD HC BAD!!!
To keep it on topic. I wonder if veterinary care was ever sought because a clotting disorder could have been treated!

I have had frostbite before. It was extremely cold. A hamster would likely just die from hypothermia, so I don't think this is frostbite.

I think it's a miracle the hamster survived after having all his limbs just fall off. Makes me wonder how he gets around on his stumbs, and if he can still climb a bit..
