I once asked a worker if my Syrian hamster would fit in Crittertail toobs. He told me, "of course because hamster's only have skulls. That's their only bone in their body" ...

To be quite honest I would of asked to see their manager and complain I know a lot of pet stores like to think they are knowledgeable about animals but they are not . I have got my new hamster moon for 7 days and the night before i got her my mom and a store associate where looking at cages and when I came to find them my mom said what about this one and I said no way any hamster of mine is going in that cage it was a critter trail I ended up buying a forty gallon aquarium for my new winter white moon .

My hammi lives in a bin cage so I have never delt with this kind of thing, but I am pretty sure they are told to promote crittertrails. On the topic of enclosures it realy is not that bad considering the hammsters are only there for a week or two, and remember petsmart is all about quantity not quality.

I love petsmart i got a hamster and a crittertrail there
Crittertrails are not good cages. Here we recommend a minimum of 360 square inches of floorspace, which is the size of a 20 gallon long tank ![]()

The PetSmart in my area is really good. They feed their hams Oxbow and even give them some hay to nest in. They know a little bit about the temperaments and personalities of each of their critters. When I got my hammie he had just finished treatment for Dermatitis which the employee was very upfront about. She made sure I knew about it. Also, his treatment required that he be handled, so he had even be socialized. She told me that they try and socialize all of their animals little bit. She even told me that one of their Syrians had it's throat partly ripped out by another and they were actually able to save him. The employee who helped me that day said she ended up adopting him
They still keep hamsters together, and there is no excuse for that. But as far as socializing their animals and doing their part to give them a good temporary home, PetSmart is doing pretty well. The hams even had silent spinners in their cage.
PetCo on the other hand, I have seen ill hamsters there and been told that I do not want to hold one because the employee does not want to get bit.
Seriously, PetCo?
