Well, I had been asking for a hamster for you don't even know ow long. On my 12th birthday, I got about $300. I asked them one more time and they said no. I asked them why. The main reason was because she thought they would stink. I told her you can clean the cage to stop the smell, so then she said yes.
Here are some tips:
If your parents say no, make sure you ask them why and what they have against hamsters.
Talk to them about your budget (you should research your budget)!!
When you get a hamster, let your parents and siblings all sit in a circle (after two or three days you get him) and he can run around. That will show them he's okay to have around.
Hope this helped!!

Here's how I convinced my SUPER stubborn dad for a hamster (I'm getting one hopefully in September!!!!!)
First you make the hamster binder remember to add lots of information here's my post about hamster binders: http://hamsterhideout.com/forum/topic/76981-hamster-binders/#entry690041 NOTE: Hamster Binders do take a few weeks or months to make so don't rush it you want it to look nice
Now just ask calmly "Hey Mom, dad can I get a hamster?"
If that's a little too scary for you than write a letter or email asking for one with some information about hamsters also in the email/letter say something like this at the end: so please mom and dad will you think about it? this means the world to me.
Now as time goes by be responsible by doing your work without being told to do it and stuff like that
Okay so a few days or weeks later your parents might go up to you and say "Where would keep the hamster?" "How big is 360 sq in?" "Do you have enough money for a hamster and all the supplies?" when you answer calmly with good answers they might say this "Okay how about we get a piece of paper that's 360 sq in and put it somewhere in your room to see if it'll stay clean" and then you'd say this calmly "Really!? can I draw out a fake cage and everything on it too!?" and then they'd say "Sure" and when you make the fake cage make everything the right size like if you we're getting a Syrian draw the 8-11 inch wheel and stuff like that ![]()
I hope this helps everyone with their hamsters good luck

I had asked for a syrian hamster and said I would pay for it all my self, and you see.. as soon as I said it.. this came out of her mouth "No! Definitely not! I don't want any rodents in this house would you like to have a pet in a cage all day we are getting a cat and that is final!!" I tried explaining a hamster would be great for me to learn responsibility and It would be good for me to have as a starter pet and I will take care of it, but she just always ignores things and say "we will talk about this Later!" and it never happens, I really want a hamster and I know loads, but she thinks hamsters are rats It just makes me ... so mad :/

Hey
So you need help convincing your parents. I learned from experience the things you can do
- Do extra chores to show your responsible
- make a report on them preferably long and detailed
- Talk about it bring up the pros of getting a hamster
- Make a contract for them to sign if they say yes
- Tell them it will give you something to do when you are bored
- Be really nice polite and good
- Make sure they are in a good mood when you ask them
- Don't give up when they say no
- say you'll pay for it with your own money (if you are able to that is)
- say would you rather me get a (something they hate) This won't guarantee you will get a hamster but it is just something funny
- Don't go down and beg

I didn't have to do much (if any) convincing to get my dwarf, because for one, i was babysitting toddlers for full days by that time, so there wasn't really a responsibility issue, second, my mom loves animals, and third, i told her i would pay for everything it needed.
Here are some things to remember when asking for a hamster ( or any pet for that matter ![]()
- ask them when they are in a good mood
- if they say no, DON'T BEG!!!
- If they say no, ask why. it may have nothing to do with you.
- it they feel you're not responsible enough, ask for a chance to prove you are. offer things like watching siblings or doing extra chores without being told.
- don't promise to pay for everything it will ever need, unless you are absolutely certain you will always have enough for weekly/monthly costs.

I recommend asking for a hamster only once you feel like you have researched all of the basics!
In my case, I had one of my church friends come over who has owned 4+ hamsters in her life, and together we made a power point that included the basics of hamster care, information on the breed I wanted, and where I could find the hamster (Craigslist, Shelter, Breeder, Pet Store, etc.). We also chose the name before hand so they could tell "how much I really wanted the hamster!"
Then, I suggest you make a list of everything you need (wheel, cage/tank/bin, hideout, bedding, water bottle, food, chews, etc.) and explain that you have saved your money for a hamster because you are responsible and only want the best for your new pet (only offer to pay if you can though- don't lie!).
Good luck!

I was in grade 3, so i basically asked them and they were like "whatever" lol
The second time it took a few months
I asked, and it was no
I made a hamster binder, maybe
I started working harder in school, and kept my room clean
I babysat for some kids till i had enough money to get supplies,
Report cards came home and i got decent marks so my dad was like "sure i guess"
So now im blessed with swiftie!
