wood shavings are not safe for hamsters as it contains soft wood like pine and cedar which has aromatic oils in them and can cause cancers in the long run.

if u want to switch to wood based bedding, be sure to only buy ASPEN. so far i only see kaytee aspen in singapore.

also note that not all hamsters can tolerate being on aspen bedding. i only use aspen for my syrians as i dont see any fur loss or allergic reaction when they r on aspen.

and u will have to sieve out the kaytee aspen as its very dusty.

Apen bedding is a great and cheap wood bedding! I think the smallest size they have is $5 but cost may vary for you. I suggest the Kaytee aspen bedding. I know the member above me said that it's quite dusty. But when I buy it it's not dusty at all! (I guess it's just manufacturing errors here and there :P) If you can, avoid Great Choice Aspen. To my opinion, it's rather dusty and rough. I didn't like it at all. But you might think different. I have to warn you to not use:

Pine, Cedar, Sawdust, Corncob, Scented, Cotton-Based, or cat litter as beddings. They're all bad for various reasons.

-Pine, Cedar, Sawdust, Scented, and Cat litter beddings can cause respiratory problems/infections. And Scented bedding just mess around a hamster's sense of smell and direction which stresses them.

-Corn cob bedding gets meal-due when soiled by a leaky water bottle of urine from a hamster.

-Cotton based beddings can cause internal blockages if consumed as it is not digestible.

Hope I helped! wave.gif

At $10/l try Back 2 Nature? I think $28 at SN for 30L. Something like that.

And you can add Kaytee Clean and Cozy on top.
