Well then, I guess when you saw this title you became furious no Posted Image ? So did when I came across this wiki article:

http://www.wikihow.com/Give-Your-Hamster-a-Bath Posted Image

  • If you absolutely must bathe your hamster, get a bowl and fill it with a couple cm of lukewarm water.

  • Very gently, moisten your hamster, taking care to keep the water away from your hamster's face area. You could use an old toothbrush to gently clean the hamster but make sure not to get it near the face.

I was furious!!! What should we do? Posted Image

Well it does say 'If you must!' maybe you can edit it to say "Hamsters should never use a bath and buy chinchilla sand instead, much better! :)"

I read through it and it pretty much is exactly what I would say to people. It says don't make them swim, buy them a sand bath if it isn't life-threatening, and it says lukewarm water.

Well, from what I'm reading, it's actually good advice. Perhaps it has been changed since you saw it? The advice given is that hamsters should never be bathed unless there is something in their fur that would be life-threatening, and in this case instructions are given on how to minimise the danger to the hamster.

When people are talking about editing it.... it's a wiki page, which means anyone can edit the information to update or correct it. So basically there should never be "bad" information up on a wiki site for long, because generally if someone sees it they can edit it to make it right.

Perhaps this is what happened here? Last edit was today so I assume it looks okay now because of that?

I don't see anything wrong with it, unless you are just bathing
hamsters for fun.

Some hamsters need bathes for safety issues, just saying.

Also, don't get mad at it
It says at the beginning 'Understand that your hamster should never need a bath'

Well, at the very beginning it says "Understand that your hamster should never need a bath!" and "Only bathe your hamster if there is something stuck in their fur." That being said, I don't really see anything wrong with the information given. If something sticky got in Hugo's fur, I would be very worrdied and have no idea what to do, and in that case the article would be very helpful. :)

you should really never bath your hamster in water. It can stress them out and it can cause wet tail. instead use chinchilla sand bath. If you have ever watched videos of hamsters swimming then you will see that they are trying to escape and are tryin not to go under. people think it is funny and fun to watch but it isnt good at all good for the hamsters. They can loes some of there hair and dye. So this isnt really a tatorial because it is pretty much wrong. but nice try for trying to give info to people.

It's true you should never bathe your hamster, but there is one small exception. If your hamster get's something sticky stuck to their fur, and you've tried everything you can to get it out, you will have to give them a small bath to get it out of their fur. You just have to make sure you put in as little water as possible, the 'bath' is brief, and you dry them completely afterwards. It's important to be very careful and do it only in emergencies. But for the most part, you've got it all right! :)

you can do that but i would just dip my finger in a little bit of water and then rub it onto the spot where it needs to be cleaned.

You should never give the hummy a bath. If something is stuck in his fur, on the surface, just get an adult to give him/her a haircut, or just using a damp cloth clean him/her up. Another option is the sand box, but never never water.

This is very serious as I understand, you can kill the hamster this way. They are so small and they need to keep a certain body temperature.

If you have no other option, water baths are fine WITH PRECAUTIONS. Lukewarm water, enough water for the hamster to WALK in, and a very short bath. After the 5 minute or less bath, you dry them for at LEAST 10 minutes to ensure COMPLETE dryness, and then give em' a nice treat for being so good while they sit in their house ;) You can't really cut a dwarf's fur, and if the hamster tries to groom, it will ingest toxic material.
