Happy Holidays to everyone!
Yes it's a little bit early, but for me Christmas is the most wonderful time of the year to celebrate, so I chose to start decorating in
A month or so ago, I was browsing around to find some simple and inexpensive crafts to make so my room would look extra festive. I stumbled upon these wonderful ideas and thought some of you might enjoy tutorials to make these yourself. Everything was exceptionally easy and cost hardly any money at all, plus crafting is one of the best stress relievers there is! I hope you enjoy this as much as I enjoyed making this post for you. (It took over 9 hours to take photos, upload, and format everything for online. Yodel helped though. He watched and kept an eye on everything I was doing...in between being naughty and chewing, of course! <3 ) Happy craft making!!
Craft # 1 - Felt stacked trees
6 pieces of different colored felt
scissors (plain or pinking shears)
needle & thread
hot glue gun
sequins or beads
plastic bags to stuff inside
To Start: Download and save the cone paper patterns underneath the spoiler below. IMPORTANT: Print these out on an 8.5 x 11 sheet of paper so it goes from edge to edge. There are 4 pattern pieces total. Use pieces 3,2,1 for the larger tree, and 2,1,0 for the smaller tree. Cut along the edge and discard the green section.
Step 1: Cut printed pattern pieces along edges and discard the green section. Pin each piece to the felt color of choice, and you can either cut with regular scissors, or with pinking shears (these give a pretty edge). I chose to cut slightly larger then the pattern on all the pieces.
Step 2: Stack and pin felt pieces together
Step 3: Begin sewing
Step 4: Continue sewing
Step 5: Continue more sewing....
Step 6: Continue even more sewing, changing your thread color as you go along.
Step 7: Finish the last piece and tie the thread in a knot on the INSIDE of your tree base.
Step 8: Stuff the inside and add trim.
Step 9: Prepare to decorate!
Step 10: Glue or sew the sequins on. Be careful and ask for an adult's help if needed.
Step 11: Admire your handiwork and eat a cookie!
(Idea found online HERE and HERE )
Craft # 2 - Punchi Pom-Pom garland
hot glue gun
I came up with this idea (though it probably already exists online) because I wanted to decorate Yodel's DIY cage, but didn't want to use Christmas lights to scratch the front plexiglass. Pom-poms give the same bright, colorful effect but are soft and there is no need to plug it in!
Step 1: Arrange your pom-poms.
Step 2: Take one at a time and glue on ribbon, being extremely careful not to burn yourself! You can have
them as close or as far apart as you wish.
Step 3: Enjoy the punchi "string lights" and drink some hot cocoa to wash down the cookie!
Craft # 3 - Tiny Tinsel Tree
sparkley pipe cleaners
miniature ornaments of any kind
empty spool of thread
felt for tree skirt
gift wrap and tiny boxes for packages
Complete tutorial with pattern HERE:
Craft # 4 - Punchi pipe cleaner snowflakes
invisible thread & push pins (if you wish to hang)
These can be hung from the ceiling, doorknobs, windows, furniture, or any other place you can think of!
Step 1: Twist the pipe cleaners together starting with a cross shape, then another cross inside of that, then another cross....etc.
Step 2: Add beads
Step 3: Repeat steps for as many snowflakes as you wish to make
Step 4: If desired, bend into 3-D flakes instead of flat ones.
Well, that is all for now. If anyone decides to make these crafts or has other ideas, feel free to post them in the thread. I would love to see what you come up with.
