My new syrian, which I will post more about in the Gallery soon, is afraid of chicken and oats, even kitten milk.

She sniffs it, turns around, squeals and darts in another direction. She even avoids walking too close to the piece of chicken meat.

Anyone have any experiences with such hamsters? Or does she simply require more time to get used to it?

Have you tried offering her anything else? If she's new she might just be nervous. Have you left it in her cage to see if she will eat it in private? Sometimes Poptart doesn't eat outside her cage but she will inside.

Maybe she doesn't think it's food. Try presenting it in different ways; for example, chop the chicken up and put it in a dish with some other seeds.

My hammy Blue was incredibly timid when I got her, and would even take delicious hamster chocolate treats from my hands. I'd put the choc drops in her cage and she'd sniff them veeeery cautiously before slinking off, and there they're stay for days at a time, untouched.
Now she's absolutely fine and eats treats and all sorts from my hand :)
I think it just takes time with some hams. Millie was never this timid, but Blue was, like crazy. Just goes to show they come in all kinds of personalities :D

Lucky is always afraid of the eggshell, although he loves the egg yolk and the egg white! XD

I don't think hamsters eat egg shells..

Anyway.
Yes I tried mixing with seeds and her own staple Harry Hamster food. No luck.
She doesn't take anything else other than Harry Hamster stuff! Even eggs. She's afraid of eggs.

I'm not kidding
._.

Of course I'm not going to let Lucky eat any eggshell. Posted Image
I mean Lucky always just run run away when he sniffs some eggshell closely.
And that's actually very CUTE! (=ヮ= )

I think maybe you can put those grains somewhere in her cage.
Leave her alone.
And she'll probably just overcome somehow. =D

Hopefully she nibbled some bits off!

She needs more protein at this age to be heathy in the future.

Serenity didn't care for certain kind of veggies unless I mixed them into her food; maybe you could try that with your hamster.
