Today I've got a new hamster. His name is Nigel, after Sir Nigel Gresley, a man who designed the LNER A3 Flying Scotsman, and the LNER A4 Mallard. He's currently exploring his new surroundings. Like Cherry, Nigel is a great climber. 3 weeks old he is, and he is fluffy as heck!

Wow, what a great name you picked out! He must be extremely tiny at only 3 weeks old; that's really quite young for a hamster to be on their own. You already know about the dangers of wet tail with very young Syrians, correct? :) Just be sure not to handle him much and leave him in peace for about a week not to stress him.

And congrats congrats! Can't wait for photos of this fluffy, little cutie. :cutie: What color is he?

He's Brown and white, and I will wait for him to fully settle down into his new surroundings before I take his photograph. :D

EDIT: he's actually 6 weeks old.

Ah yes, 6 weeks sounds better and he looks about that. He is SO SO cute! :mindblowing: He actually looks to be a short-haired, not a long haired? :) Absolutely adorable markings and face.

Welcome, you cute little Nigel! :slaphappy:

That wheel is kinda too small for a Syrian, though.
He's gonna need a wheel at least 8".

Thanks. Nigel is still nervous, so when I go to bed, I'm gonna put some kitchen towel under my pillow and see if that absorbs my scent. Then, in the morning, i'm gonna tear the kitchen towel and put it in Nigel's cage.

Yep. Today he woke up, and yawned, had a nibble of something, rearranged his bedding a bit, and then he sniffed the back of my hand.

He's now back in his bed, and he's curled up into a cute lil ball.
