I feel like I have mixed feelings there...
The fact is, they think that everyone should do everything they say. Eating meat is bad, wearing fur is bad, buying animals is bad. Everything's bad. They're too focused on eliminating the big things, than focusing on the more imporant things.
I am very against eating animals, but I don't go about shoving my beliefs down others' throats. I often get critiscized before I will say anything to anyone else. It's not an easy lifestyle, and it almost landed me in the hospital.
They should be educating peopel about HOW to be vegetarian, instead of being rude and spontaneous and evil about cutting meat out completely. And they're not.
I get letters from them all the time asking me to sign petitions, and donate money. I don't have a credit card and my mom simply thinks they're a terrorist organization, so I have yet to donate any money. But I am a very green individual, so I know I do my part and love to educate people of my opinion only if they're interested. PETA is just too quick to shove things down other's throats, and that's not effective at all. That's how you get blind followers, not believers.

I don't think I directly support PETA. I am more into PETA2 because a lot of bands support that and it's more youth based, and they seem to do a lot more. They're inspired by PETA, but not directly related to. They have all sorts of facts and things they send out, they do rallies, and pretty well every concert I've been to, there's been a PETA2 booth that gives out leaflets with out throwing red paint on you.
I remember when PETA2 first came out and it was great. All the things that PETA stood for without the craziness. Then I do recall that instantly all the PETA members joined PETA2, for the name and before I knew it it was PETA all over again. I never looked at them again, so perhaps they've changed since then?
Another thing PETA is against would be service animals: you know seizure detection dogs, seeing eyes dogs. Those sorts of animals.

That's crazy! I know a blind old lady who has a standard(large) poodle for her eye seeing dog. Idk what she would dog without him! Which also makes me think of the movie "My Sister's Keeper" the lawyer had a seizure dog (that part of the movie made me cry close to the most. My 10 year old nephew has seizures, if my sister had the money, I'm sure he'd have one. And one would be great for my mother who also has them :/Another thing PETA is against would be service animals: you know seizure detection dogs, seeing eyes dogs. Those sorts of animals.

I'll research about PETA2 because I've never heard of it. It takes a big commitment to be vegetarian, and in my country it's Thanksgiving so I can't miss out on turkey! You're a true animal lover and I see that no matter what people say, you're proud of being vegetarian. So keep on standing up!
Oh no service animals are amazing and intelligent and have so much to offer society.
I thought so too and it will be really harsh and ugly if PETA rips families apart.

Yeah they have gotten worse. But I do find it helpful when you have inspiration from an organisation like that. Especially since they send you leaflets and stickers etc which I put everywhere lol.I remember when PETA2 first came out and it was great. All the things that PETA stood for without the craziness. Then I do recall that instantly all the PETA members joined PETA2, for the name and before I knew it it was PETA all over again. I never looked at them again, so perhaps they've changed since then?

I also did a contest a few years ago to get as many signatures (petition) as I could to help stop the clubbing of seals.
But again, even with that PETA managed to turn it almost into a descriminatory almost racist act... Yes, it's wrong. But they also attacked the Olympics when they were in Vancouver, and made campaigns saying Canadians are blood thirsty killers... Like really? No.
That was kind of my breaking point with them, and I gave up. Because PETA2 was very much involved in that. They sent me frequent pictures... I'll see if I can find the flyers they made.
Thanks! I was on and off over and over. I was steady for at least 4 years, then my mom made me stop. I am about 90% there, as I am trying to take it slow so I don't get sick again. But that's what I mean, I was so eager and inspired to do it cold turkey, I wasn't looking after myself. They need to do more on how to help people, and I just don't see it from them.I'll research about PETA2 because I've never heard of it. EDIT:
Here they are:

Criminalizing the olympic characters for the Vancouver Olympics...

Irrelevant nonsense that means nothing, and has almost nothing to do with the seals. They're willing to put thousands of people out of work from supporting their families for something unrelated.

Again...
I'm sure I'm not the only Canadian supporter that was disgusted in such an act of discrimination.

Wow, that's is just terrible. PETA is not thinking of what happens to THEIR OWN race, humans. Risking peoples' jobs is true, but I'm sure the government ( hopefully) will stop this organization because jobs to any government are more important than animals. But I guess PETA has rights too, and people can decide whether to support or go against them.
Thanks everyone for helping me find out more and showing your opinions about PETA. I've really learned a lot more than before.
Seems PETA2 isn't much better then :(
Sadness.
You're right... :(

somebody else yelled at them, degraded them and attacked them.
PETA was more relevant when Alex Pacheco was involved. when he left
it seemed that was when PETA became so shrill.
PETA started with a worthwhile message at a time when there was
little said to defend animals. it's too bad the current leadership wants
to continue to just be outrageous so they get media attention.
anybody who knows anything about the advertising world can tell you
that the catchiest/ most outrageous/ most trending commercials often
never lift sales figures for the product. they become something to enter
in ad competitions to impress colleagues.
PETA seems to be in the same place now, they are only preaching to
those with the same angry and exclusionary viewpoint. they aren't
reaching anybody else.
not sure how many people know how PETA started out and Pacheco's
role in it, which lifted it from obscurity to national prominence... the
wikipedia article does a pretty good job of describing that time in
PETA's history with their involvement in exposing vivisection/ research labs.
if you read the entire article, you may be surprised to read that there are
some groups that don't believe PETA is radical enough:
PETA
