My dearest friend and eye-in-the-sky Shelly has just alerted me to the fact the USA site for IKEA no longer stocks the Detolf glass shelf unit beloved of hamster fans the world over!
The glass shelves, used in the construction of what are termed "German style" tanks are no longer available on the USA site www.ikea.com/us/en despite growing popularity of the unit. The unit is still available however from Ikea stores in other parts of the world.
And now here's Gregg with the weather.

News just in! A member at Hamster Central contacted IKEA and has been told the Detolf range is not being discontinued, but rather the information on the website is being updated. Thank you, Holly, for the find

They are discontinued in Germany too apparently. Maybe they didn't like the latest trend for their use? >.<

I'm wondering why they're being discontinued though? I hope it's not because they're not sturdy enough or anything!
Happy I got mine already, who knows when they'll be discountinued for good anywhere!

Probably because they have new stuff coming in soon and they need to 'refresh' their stock. I'll try e-mailing them later to make sure it isn't something we need to be worried about safety-wise.

The Detolf is a glass display cabinet sold by Ikea and used as a hamster habitat by laying the unit on its back and removing the shelves.
An excellent example of this can be found here.

cool you can still buy them used though used to have one wish I wouldnt have sold it now
