Introducing Zack the salamander. His name is actually Isaac but my brother couldn't remember it. He's a fire bellied newt and he's just a baby. :lovestruck:

Wow he's so neat looking! Out of curiosity what kind of set up (briefly, lol) do they need? I know nothing about these guys.

He was a bit of an impulse buy, I'll be honest. So currently he's in this.

But we're going to pick him up some coconut husk substrate and have half his tank with that, and the other half will be water. We're adding in live plants and some rocks, just to make it more interesting for him. :slaphappy: Maybe even a new friend.

They're semi aquatic animals and really easy to care for. All they need is a good size tank, hiding places, water, and fed small crickets and bloodworms daily, they're pretty good pets. :valentine:

I also know nothing about salamanders but I once was told that they need a different type of set up depending the time of the year or something like that? Like part of the year they need a set up with a puddle of water and some turf, and the other part of the year they need a fully aquatic water-only type set up? Any truth in that or was I misled?

PS- he is TOO CUTE!

Thanks!

And I'm not sure about changing the set up as the seasons change. I haven't read about that anywhere. Unless it's a different specie of salamander. :scratchchin:
