Hi all!!
I'm thinking of re-locating to Melbourne in Australia, and was wondering where I can find hammies? I've been to many petshops to check out but all of them only carries mice or rats? would appreciate any info on where i can get some hammies. Ta!

hey there.. as far as i know, there are no hamsters allowed in melbourne or australia for that matter.. so you could stop looking for them in petshops.. i'm from melbourne australia myself but currently residing in indonesia..

I'm afraid HamstervilleGdk is right. As far as I know they are very much illegal as they are afraid of having another rabbit incident (people let rabbits go and they became an invasive species). Rats and mice are the only rodents I hear Australians talk about on other forums too.

yes.. that is true.. the australian government has a strict law on bringing animals (& plants) that are not native into the country.. please do check out this list of rodents in australia & the history of rodents from the australian government of agriculture, fisheries & forestry
