After running this idea through Wiffy and Dusty they very kindly let me go through with it. I got the idea off of some other forums and thought that it would be great for HH. Basically it is a thread for each member to post their deceased hamsters. Each member would post only once with information about their hamster such as:
-A Picture -Name -Date of Birth (D.O.B) or the day that you got them -Color variety (Ex. Agouti, sable) -Species -Cage-mates (if any) -Comments on behavior etc. -Any illnesses, or health issues they had in the past -Cage kept in -A brief description -Gender -Date of Death (D.O.D)
To keep this thread organized there are a few things to remember:
-edit your post to add hamsters or other information, it is one post per member -if you have any comments, suggestions or questions about how this thread works do not post it here but please PM (personal message) Wiffy, Dusty or another staff member. -if you wish to ask a member a question or leave a comment about a particular member's hamster then please PM that member.
Keep in mind that any comments that are added will be deleted so please remember to PM instead.
The idea of this thread is to see everyone's hamsters, what kind of hamster they had, what cages they used, what health issues they have dealt with, etc. So that advice can be asked for based on experience. This is the exact same idea as the one in the Ham-Ha! I'm New! board but for deceased hamsters only.

Silvered a lot as he aged to almost light gray Cage mates: None Behavior Notes: Always over hyper, very jumpy and alert, bit almost everyone who picked him up but not me (most of the time that is...) Health: He was pretty old for a dwarf but still super energetic. He was really twitchy and hyper and alert and always running around, he barely ever slept. The day he passed (I think it was from a stroke or heart failure) my mom said that he had actually looked really skinny lately. Cage: Two level wire cage with carefresh, silent spinner, and orange plastic house Other: He was so sweet and funny. Lots of people called him scary because he bit everyone but I understood him and I was never freaked out when he was all hyper unlike anyone else. She wasn't very photogenic and liked to hide in her house all day, or curl up and take a nap in her tube. Overall she was probably one of the cutest hamsters I've had (Shhh, don't tell the others I said this! :P). Even though she seems like a hamster that doesn't want anything to do with people, she could be very, very sweet at times. Gender: Female Date of Death: October 4, 2010 (Rest in peace, my lil' trooper)
I don't have any pictures, but thought I would share some of the crazy, endearing characteristics of my past hamsters....may they rest in peace!
Holly and Penny:
Our first set of hamsters we bought were for our boys, which our sons named Penny and Holly. Both were Siberian Dwarf hamsters according to the pet store. Holly loved to be petted and loved and the other was spastic and hyper....kind of like the boys they belonged to! Holly passed away first during a very disturbing hamster accident. They had both gotten out of the cage a couple of times with no harm to them; however, on this day, my youngest son and I were playing with Holly when she ended up on the floor. She loved to be on the floor, but we would immediately pick her up so she didn't wander off. On this tragic day, she died in an instant. My husband had set mouse traps in the basement (cringe) and Holly found one. We were devastated and banned the horrible things from the house. What was he thinking? It was a terrible set of circumstances where she ended up on the floor where she had been a hundred times with no harm when she wandered into the trap after falling directly at my son's feet. We don't know how she got so far so fast. We will always miss our sweet Holly who loved to be loved.....Penny, on the other hand, was a spastic little girl (in a good way). My son is a bit hyper and he and Penny got on very well! She was an albino, so she and he matched a bit with his blond hair. She didn't like to be cuddled as much except towards the end of her life when she used to sit on my shoulder and nuzzle my hair and eyelashes. Penny had a tumor or possibly her cheek pouch became inflamed, then had a problem with her eye where it looked like it had a huge water bubble over it, then eventually passed away peacefully in a few hours. She'd had the tumor for months, but as far as the pet store in the area was concerned, the only option was the vet. We unfortunately couldn't afford a $50 vet visit for a hamster who was getting up in years, so we made her as comfy as possible. She was never bothered by it except on her last day. We have a small travel cage that I put her in and kept vigil throughout the night, giving her food and water on my finger and keeping her warm. She knew I was there even though a lot of her senses seemed to be malfunctioning and she seemed grateful that someone cared. She finally passed in the early morning peacefully in her sleep. RIP Penny, you were a sweetie and we loved your antics.
I know these are long descriptions, but bear with me
Coco:
After Holly passed away, we didn't want Penny to be lonely so my younger son bought Coco for me, a sweet hamster who was actually my hamster. After the Holly incident, my older son, the owner of Holly, wasn't interested in owing a hamster any more. She loved to show you around her cage....run in the wheel...climb the tube and peak at you from there....go into her little purple igloo and peak out (you couldn't go near it with her in it, that was her special place!)...then she'd do it all again and make sure you were watching. She also had a tumor that never seemed to bother her until one day I found her laying out flat, looking dead, and very, very cold. I warmed her up and she survived for almost another week like nothing was wrong. I tried the same comforting measures that I had with Penny when her time was near, but she didn't want to be bothered. I finally made her a comfy spot in her larger cage instead of trying to keep her near me in the travel cage, and put her things close to her since she didn't seem to want to move anywhere. I checked on her every hour or so until she passed away in her sleep. She was my first hamster, even though I'm an adult, and I loved her dearly. Her antics were endearing and she loved to explore and be loved. She'll always be remembered fondly!
Phoebe:
After Penny passed away, and we had purchased Coco, we figured she needed a friend too since she was used to living with Penny. My son chose Phoebe very carefully because one of the hamsters we looked at was a biter. Well...it turned out that Phoebe was a psycho hamster. I mean, really, really nuts. She used to climb the bars of her cage all the way to the top! We had one of those double decker cages with all the tubes but the main cage had bars. If you came anywhere near the cage while she was inside, she would run and attack. Poor, crazy Phoebe. That hamster hit the floor, the wall, and the bars of her cage many, many times because it's hard not to flinch when one of them takes a big, bloody chomp out of your finger. But if you could get her out of the cage...she was an angel...almost. She loved to be petted, but you still had to watch your fingers. She was also a bar-chewer, which I have discovered from reading here is a bad thing. We didn't know that at the time, but we did try to provide her with every available safe thing to chew on. Sadly, Phoebe only lived a few months before I found her inexplicably dead in the cage one day. Coco wasn't too upset to see her gone and we weren't very surprised. She really, really chewed that cage! Even though she was a bit pscyho and left scars, we really enjoyed her and she had the cutest face! Poor Phoebe!
Truffles:
Coco lived alone after that. We were a little hamster shy after the Phoebe incident to say the least. I've already told you how Coco passed away. For mother's day, which was a week or so after Coco's passing, my younger son really wanted to give me another hamster because I really loved Coco so much. He talked his dad into another hamster and we all trooped down to the pet store to purchase her (along with a new cage - a Habitrail Ovi). She's an adorable little black hamster with touches of white here and there, so I named her Truffles because she reminds me of chocolate. She was very young when we got her and very friendly. She loves to be petted, but if you wake her up, look out. She likes to give me a friendly gnaw on the fingernail to let me know I've urked her by disturbing her rest. She doesn't bite otherwise. My husband, the goober, spoiled her by shelling some pumpkin seeds for her. Now she won't eat them unless you break them open for her. Spoiled! She also requests that you crack her sunflower seeds. She is very curious and cautious. She's the only hamster we have ever had that doesn't fall on a regular basis. She loves to climb onto my shoulder and look around....she's queen of the mountain! She loves her cage and likes to run all over it and has her pick of sleeping quarters up top, in her hidey hole, in the "den," and we even catch her bathing in the water tower. If there are vents in the area where she is, she'll lick you through the vent. She loves my younger son because he always seems to have food on his hands somewhere and she licks him like crazy!
Those are the hamster chronicles. I hope I reached the right section because the story was originally about hamsters we have known and loved, but Truffles is still with us. In fact, my first post ever here was today when I found a large "thing" in her ear and didn't know what it was. Thanks for the advice on that one. We're going to go with ear wax, which I have never seen come out of a hamster's ear in that quantity before. Someday her day will come, but until then, I love you Truffles!
