I take everything PETA says or "proves" with a big fat grain of salt. I don't approve of their methods (after all, they euthanize 80+% of all animals they "rescue") and like to make it sound like EVERYTHING is evil.... including owning pets to begin with.

I haven't seen the video, nor to I plan to, because for all intensive purposes, I wouldn't believe it. Yes, there ARE some bad stores/breeders/etc. But the majority isn't bad. It's right up there with how cows are "mistreated" for their milk.... :rotfl: My family owns a dairy so I can say from personal experience they aren't hurt at all.

Well it depends on where the milk is coming from. A free range place if much different than a large scale operation. Just saying. ;) Other than that I agree with you spot on!

I wouldn't necessarily say that most petsmarts themselves are bad. I've seen their backrooms going and checking out hamsters. They have really small accomodations for hamsters, but they're fairly clean and the hamsters generally seem healthy and well-cared for. It's just their distributor, but is anyone really surprised about that? After all, these people are "producing" hamsters like a commodity. Since, it doesn't cost a great deal to "make more" they don't really have to treat all of them well. Whereas, petsmart if something goes wrong, they at least lose some of their profit.

My local Petsmart is good, the hamsters and gerbils have nice, tidy cages and the fish are all heathy. But I went to a Petsmart 2 hrs away and almost all the fish were floating, dead. The hamsters were all very scared of people, and the birds squawked a lot and pecked through the cages. -shiver shiver- I feel bad for those poor animals. :'(

Petsmart near by me is okay not too good, I went yesterday

I saw 6 short syrian hamsters together in one tank another tank

had 3 long syrian hamsters together rest of tanks had one and two

some of syrian hamsters was fully grown

same as dwarfs too 2 or 3 together or even 6 robos together

Petsmart never tamed their animals but they shouldn't never

put hamsters together

My pet smart is awesome!  I picked out a hamster yesterday.  There weren't too many hamsters in the cage and the employee that helped me out knew basically every hamster!  She described it and talked about its peculiar habits.  One hamster was basically fully tamed by the workers because it had been there so long.  I suppose not every pet smart is the same but mine is great!

To be honest pet shops don't really care about the health of the hamsters just about the sales and how much money they make :(

My petsmart treats their animals well. The cages seem clean. My hamster, as seen in my picture (this was before I knew about hamster adoption, but I don't regret it!) was taken out of the sick room for me because the other dwarves bit her a bunch, and she looked perfectly taken care for.
