one of our members in london, england~~ Meowmies~~ has been fortunate to
find this veterinarian who's very experienced with caring for exotics of all kinds.
hamsters, chinchillas, birds, to name just a few. fully equipped with xRay,
sonogram and surgery facilities, you're very lucky if you live in the london area
and need to find a hamster-experienced vet.

Another vet in London is the Beumont Animal Hospital. It is a teaching hospital for my vet uni but is excellent, prices are reasonable and they know how to care for and treat small animals. There are seperate waiting rooms for cats, dogs and the small furries so that your pet doesn't get stressed whilst waiting.
Amazing place, always taken my pets there and always will!

Heh, a whole pinned topic just for us Londoners. We're a lucky bunch. :)

emzylou07 - It's great that there is another fantastic small animal friendly practice in London, especially since Beumont Animal Hospital is North of the river and C J Hall is south, so you could go to the one on whichever side you are on by car without having to go into central London or around the M25.

I can recommend an excellent vet's surgery in East London (Leyton) where the two partners both have extensive exotics knowledge and a wealth of experience with hamsters, including dwarves. I've taken Syrians, Campbell's and Winter Whites to be looked at by them and each time they've impressed me. They operated on one of my Winter Whites and did an amazing job. This is their website:

May I add that St Francis Vets in Norfolk Square in Brighton have been brilliant with both my Syrians. The guy from South Africa - Sean I think - is brilliant and has told me that half of their business is with "little guys" like Buster and Mooka. They cost about £8 for a basic check up and recommend that you put your pet on their books before you need to for free so that you get an appointment quicker.

Just in case anyone down South needs someone closer than London.

note from missPixy: couldn't find a website link for this veterinarian.

thank you very much! it's so great when a member
can give a good recommendation, because then it
makes it easier for people who are looking for the
first time.

Does anyone have a recommendation for a veterinary clinic specialising in hamsters in the south east? We are based in Surrey, and ideally don't want to stress our hamster by travelling too far.

I know a vets in Chester (waaaay north of london) if anyone needs one. They are fantastic and deal with all sorts of small animals - my work place takes all our sick animals there! Family run buisness, with the 5th generation son in charge of the practice now.. I also know a exotic vet dealing reptiles, birds, etc not to far from chester if anyone needs them! :) X

For people in Yorkshire, Robert White at Donaldson and partners, Thongsbridge, Holmfirth practice is very good with hamsters. He has operated on several of our hamsters successfully and diagnosed and treated any illness.
