Doubt it.

our P@H is alright.
All the cages look spacious enough for the pets they have and the pets seem to be in good shape. None looked ill.

i dont have a pets at home near me i dont think and my petshops seem to treat all the animals well. but i dont understand why some petstores are like this. why dont they care about the animals? surely if yer working in a petshop then u like animals but i guess thats often not the case :(
At my petsupermarket tho there was this employee that played and stared at the hamsters for like 20 mins straight so i guess he liked them.

I usually shop at places such as Petco/Petsmart. The pet @ home one which is far away from here but we visit for kitties. It smells bad, there are cockroaches roaming the place and it was disgusting! The syrians are cute, small and the cage is just so small. They have bedding, food, and water but sadly no wheel since it doesn't fit. Ugh, I can't imagine buying anything from there.

apart from my new hamster all of my old hamsters and rabbits have come from pets at home and have all been fine... only thing i will say is the cages are small that they are kept in but if they had to put each hamster/animal in a huge cage there would not be anyroom to sell any pet food or toys, most of the time i go in theres only 2 in a tank and most of the time most of the tanks are empty but there rubbish at sexing

I got Coke from P@H, but I can't go anywhere else, because there are no pet shops near me that look clean or healthy.
When I got Coke, there was one hamster, a chinese dwarf, that had no fur on it's neck and there was a big cut there, but the hamster was happily walking around, not lying on the shaving squeaking or anything.
But, as I said, I'm stuck with the P@H near me, but overall it isn't that bad (not including the chinese dwarf).

well , to be honest i got my hamster from there it died a month later

To be honest, I've only had good experiences at mine. I went there a week ago, and the member of staff that was helping me was very helpful. She gave mr lots of information (although I'd done lots of research beforehand:P) and even let me go off for an hour because I couldn't decide if I wanted a Syrian or Dwarfs :)
It is the only decent place I know of in my area though, because I looked in the local market for cages, and they were all awful. Hardly any were suitable for hamsters. But yeah, I guess I'm lucky, because I've heard so many bad stories about petshops :( I was actually quite surprised to see a thread about how awful Pets at home are, but then again, I've only been to one. Ok rant over lol

I use 'Pets At Home' quite often and I have yet to have a bad experience. My local store is very clean and the staff are really helpful. I bought my newest hamster Ben from there last Monday and the guy that served me seemed to know his stuff pretty well. All the animals were well looked after and none of them looked ill or cramped. Same goes for another store I visited .... that was great too.

Whats with all these pet shops around the world. :( the place where i live with a population oflike 800k has 2 petshops, petland (overpriced) and petcetera (going out of buisness) with like pet valu that doesnt sell much stuff. Ive never heard of half these stores people talk about on here :/ i guess thats a good thing because its all about cruelty stuff i hear? And btw to put it in to perspective im forced to shop at petland because its the only petshop really near me and its 22 dollars for an ultra bag of carefresh and 15 dollars for a normal bag of carefresh. I was also appalled when i purchased a 3.5 inch crittertrail tube i needed for 10 DOLLARS!! oh well whatever i dont know what pet shops to trust anymore....

I live in the North East of England and there are 2 P@H stores that I have used before - One is pretty good. Bad store policies aside, the staff are experienced and between them have a good knowledge of all the animals. The animals have toys, shelter and plenty of food and water and are always clean. I have heard them refusing sales to parents with very young children, and when I was in there a few days ago they were explaining to some parents and children NOT to wake up their hamsters suddenly or grab them roughly, demonstrating the proper handling techniques and also recommending the best styles of cage in the store (They said not to get an OVO unless they bought the expansions because it is small for a syrian on it's own, and recommended one of their better designed cages or a large tank)

The only "bad" things I have seen in that store have occured because of management descisions and the rules the staff have to abide by from the head offices. Their adoption policy is a bit screwed for instance (It doesn't apply to the expensive animals like the house rabbits by the looks of it - I have a feeling they just re-sell them at full price of £130 instead of the "donation" they ask for all other returned or handed-in animals.)

The OTHER store, I don't think I will go in again. HUGE sales floor for dog leads etc, but the poor animals are hot and tired and don't have nearly as much space as they should have. The staff are there for the hard sell and don't seem to take the time to advise customers, and they seem to sell anything to anyone without much thought.

I have had good and bad experiences in a lot of other P@H stores too. I think it depends on if the staff genuinely know about the animals and care enough to see them go to good homes...

This going to sound so wierd but, when I got to my local P@H, I feel like I have more knowledge of the animals than the staff do. I think they could be a lot better trained. I don't feel that the staff are very helpful or full of information at all. It's like, they tell you the basic, then you have to go away and figure the rest out, but sometimes, I've noticed, they don't even give you the basic. Obviously with the animals available to adopt, they can only tell you what they know *X*
