Hello all! Over the summer i'm going to be getting a pair of firebellied toads, and i'm just starting to do my research into them now :)

I think they'll be living in a 2' or an 18" tank, with about half of the bottom with water in, and half of the bottom with land in, the water should be about 4" deep, the water will be filtered and heated to 24 deg c, and they'll have a heat mat on the land side to keep that warm too. :) there'll also be plenty of places for them to hide, and i'm going to add some live plants to the water side. :) I'll be feeding them with crickets and small locusts, which will be gut loaded to provide them with everything they need.. I'm SOOOOOOOO exited about getting my little froggies!

Does any one else on the fourm keep forggies? If you do, is there anything i should change in my plan?

My brother has proabably done tons of research on these little guys.
Because he seems to know just about everything about any amphibian/reptile.
Maybe I can get him to post on this topic for you... :scratchchin:

We do, however, have an albino pacman frog. Which, isn't the same at all, I know.
But, I don't know, maybe there are some similarities.
All his substrate consists of is very moist pete moss.
When he was a baby (about the size of a quarter) we fed him crickets, and lobster roaches.
Now, he's the size of a baseball, and he gets a weanling or fuzzy mouse every.....I don't know how often. My brother is the one who feeds him. :P

Lemme see if I can get him to post here for you. :)

Hey, dezilu's brother here. Yeah, I do happen to know about firebellied toads, and so do you apparently! Everything in your setup sounds good, except for maybe two things. You said they would be eating crickets and small locusts; I'm just concerned about the locusts, as the biggest crickets that I would feed to an fbt would be 1/2", so, they would have to be some very small locusts. But if that's the case, then great!, I was just making sure though. And another thing isn't really something you'd have to do, just something I'd recommend, that you dust the feeder insects with a calcium supplement a few times a week, and with a multivitamin supplement once a week or so. It can't do any harm, and may make your fbt's just that much healthier. Anyway, have fun, and welcome to the wonderful world of herps :D

thanks Josh :) I can get very small locusts, they're about an inch long give or take a lil bit :) and of course, i wouldnt give the frogs them til i knew they would take them :) For the substrait, i was thinking of going for smooth boulders near the water, and then either moist peat or moist moss on the top bit of it :)
