hi hamu! great idea!

well a few ham toys I made are are:

Cereal Box Fun

1. Get a empty cereal box
2. Cut various sizes of holes on both sides of the box
3. If you have room in your cage, tape it to the side. if not, let your ham play in it while its in a playpen etc..
4. Enjoy!

Cardboard Maze

1. Gather or collect various sizes of cardboard boxes and paper tubes
2. When you have enough, cut hles in the cardboard boxes so the paper tubes fit though.
3. Do this so all of them connect
4. Enjoy! It can even be a four way maze of fun!

I hae added some links below from this site that other members have posted some neat ideas:

a good thing i found (for my mice anyways) is that if you put some shoelaces in the cages from side to side or one hanging down they will love to try to climb on them and pull at them.
also a good idea i found was to get a box and cut several holes in it and from atleast one side i attached a toilet roll for them to run around in! can't think of many more right now...i'll mention some more if i make any :)

I just toss a piece of newspaper in mines cage and my hammy uses it as a tunnel, a hat (when he was asleep I caught him under neath it) a thing to chew, and he moves it all around the cage. It is about 1" by 1"

Hi Sis!(^)

I think that one good thing to do is make a newspaper tunnel. Take a piece of newspaper and tape the ends together. The piece should by kinda small, because hamsters aren't huge. Also, you could try taking some kleenex boxes and stacking them together with masking tape. Add a ramp (a strip of cardboard). Watch the hamsters when they use these, and if they chew the tape take it away. :hamster2:

:cheeky: Rachie I'm glad you finally logged on to this site! :mouse:

I make double tunnels. You take two paper towel tubes, cut them in half, and then glue them back to back.( keep in mind that hammies chew, so watch the hammy closely around the tunnel.)
And then the hamster can go on top and in lower section of tubie.

What you could also try is taking some paper and shreding it. My hamster loves to play in it!

I wouldnt recommend using paper tubes and newpaper for toys. Using paper tubes are hazardous because the hamster will chew it to bits, swallowing some. Then it will get stuck in their stomach and they cannot digest cardboard.

The ink off newpaper is also hazardous because the ink can make them terribly sick. Thats why you dont use newspaper for nesting also.

So instead of using actual paper tubes, just buy the habitrail tubes, they are plastic and it doesnt matter if you have a habitrail cage or not, they will still nejoy running around in them. ;)

My hammy uses toilet paper tubes and she never chews them. I guess it's different for each hammy. :sly:   :yummy: :sarcastic: :scratchchin: :shy: :slaphappy: :star: :sun: :tomato:  :veryhappy: :mischievous: :innocent: :hyper: :hmmm: :goodvibes: :fluffy: :cheeky:

dwarf hamster: i think it is fine until you actually see that you hamster is done that. You can leave it in as long as there isnt any bite marks or holes in it done by your ham. But if you feel really unsafe then you can do whats best. I just stay on the safe side because both of my hams do that and i didnt want them to get sick.

Thanks foxxyy for your reply. :sly: My hamsters do bite the tissue boxes or toilet rolls that I put in and spit out the bits of cardboard. I do not put any newspaper though. I guess to play safe, I better remove them. :dissappointed:
