But, Eleanor wouldn't have had a happy last few days without you. Yea, and the cages are too small.I recently bought a 5 week old Golden from PetCo.. I wish I hadn't. She had wet tail and died like 3 or 4 days later. Although PetCo and Petsmart are giving animals homes, they could make improvements. For one, they could remove the bumblefoot wheels. I hate those; it breaks my heart when I see the dwarves running so hard those.
... Also, the cage size in inadequate. When 10 gallons is the minimum cage size for one Syrian, why would they put like 7 Syrians together in a 5 gallon tank. I understand most of the hamsters are not there long, but for the ones that are there for a longer period of time, it must be extremely uncomfortable.

Like mine for instance.
Its magnficent.
They're put in tanks, with Carefresh. ^_^
And they have an adoption cage. ^_^
It mostly depends on the manager.
They could be young still. Why did one store have three syrians in one cage?
Well, they would be leaving soon anyways.Size X-small wire mesh and runged wheels squashed into just as tiny cages.
How small is the cage anyway?
You cant exspect it to be huge!
Besides, what if the hamsters did have all the right stuff, how much do you think the hamster would actualy cost?
I think, a lot.
Petsmart; They're pretty much the same.
Except they use shavings.
I dont know if its Aspen or pine or etc...
But thats fine, since they will be adopted soon anyways.
I have to say, my Petsmart has more of a variety of hamsters.
My PetCo only has Syrians.
But my Petsmart has Syrians and dwarfs.

No I can't expect it to be huge, but the hamster I was referring to in the second quote was in about a 5 gal. sized aquarium. I think the reason it was in there was because they had an overflow of hamsters, however I don't know why they couldn't have used a 10 gal. as that would have been even cheaper (mass produced). My Petcos have adoption cages for animals too, most people are cautioned against adopting though, usually for reasons such as: it's old, you have a better selection buying them new and it might be mean. I have an old, mean, only one like her at the place where
I got her rescue hamster. Therefore I have a personal objection to these reasons. As for how much they would cost, I have seen them for 15-20$ at petsmart. I agree Petsmart is about the same. However the only chain store I have ever seen give veggies to their animals is Petsmart. Still I know it depends on the manager. I have just had more rotten experiances at Petco than at Petsmart.

But there hamsters are in pretty good shape, they where out of syrians so I don't know if they seperate them. But they have 2 tanks of males stacked on top of eachother and 2 tanks of females stacked on top of each other. I just can't stand the lack of products for small animals they have available lol.
Petsmart is WONDERFUL, mine only sells females, and the sales people are very small pet smart! They are super nice and there hamster are in GREAT conditions, although some have wheight problems when you buy them *cough*karrot*cough* but the dwarfs are in groups of 2, and the syrians are alone. They do use wire mesh wheels.....but so do I, there not dangerous if you hammy has abnormal foot size, like mine, Karrot has pretty big feet. They had about 6 cavys in one 10 gallon tank, but they moved them to a MUCH large thing later. The cats arn't in the best of conditions though....
