Petco is horrible.

The mice are extremely unhealthy.
There was one, that I adopted (Mimi <3)
She had a brain tumor and they were just letting her die.
She would have died very quickly, but I brought her home and gave her the best two weeks of her life. :lovestruck:

^Not all PetCos are horrible.
Maybe your location is.
Mine takes gr8 care of all their animals.

Like I said, just because a few are like that, doesn't mean they all are.
Mine's very nice. ;)

I second that. A Petco near me, that I just found a day or so ago, has to be the best petstore (out of any petstores, not just petco) that i've ever been in.

Yeah, that's what I mean.
Some locations are bad; but some are good, like yours & mine.

Exactly, the petco I go to is good to. Same with petsmart. They all handle their hamsters and play with the rodents. (Imagine a job were you play with hamsters! That would be awsome!) So, maybe your location has rodent people who like mice and all that, or maybe you don't, were they neglect them. If your location is bad, don't go there. If its good, kool :)

^I think because a lot of petstores don't carry them; or have them in stock ;)
They're mostly sold online.

OMG Petco sucks...

They sold me a bag of hamster food today with a "wrip" (workers actual spelling)... and I didn't even know! The note was at the bottom of the bag, covering the rip up... why would I ever look there when shopping?

That could be a management/employee confusion. It happens in ALL STORES in one form or another. I don't work in any petstore (I work in a small family owned grocery) but some crouton bag had a hole in it (there was a PIN sticking out of the bag so I knew). I stuck a note on it and stuck it over for a manager to take care of it. It wasn't a grocery item but a bakery item... and the bakery work had all gone home for the day. Since it wasn't a normal item I could not run it back to spoils, the bakery keeps track of things that they throw out and wouldn't be happy if something just went missing without being accounted for. It got stuck back on the shelf for some reason. I'm thinking another employee came over in the morning and put it up while doing a scavenger hunt. A scavenger hunt is what my management calls running around the store looking for completely out of place items and putting unspoiled returns away. But I think the note fell off and someone accidently put it away.

I highly doubt Petco intended to sell a bad item. There was probably a miscommunication or something. Either that or mischief from people coming into the store. You won't believe the stuff that goes on with the pranks people do. The funniest had to be when someone I guess went to a shoe store and stole a bunch of the panty ho socks. They came into the store later in the evening when there was less people around...and they wrapped cans and produce in them. I had the pleasure of working the next morning...and stocking shelves at that! I was working with a manager and we both sat there like what were they thinking.

But was it a slit or a tear? If it looks like a nice clean cut from a box cutter then it was an employee being careless when stocking the shelves. If it was a tear then it was damaged in shipping...or could be a stupid customer. Yeah, you won't believe the number of people that will stick a broken item on the shelf after they break it. Seriously! If you break something...tell us! We will clean it up before it makes a mess. The people that bother me more are people that bring up broken or expired items and when you bring it to their attention, they try to take it back to the shelf. They put up a fight too...Come on, we stick it in the spoils room and when we clean out spoils every couple of days, we dump detergent on it to keep the homeless out!

Sorry for the bit of a rant...I can't wait until I graduate and can get a "real" job. But yeah, my guess is on confusion with management or a stupid employee that doesn't care. Almost all issues with these chain stores will come from management, employees that are just working for the money and really don't care, or bad suppliers. There's nothing wrong with the policies with teh chain store or the store itself. I mean it's all individual. Personally, I've never stepped foot in a PetCo. I've only been to PetsMart.

I've noticed my petsmart handling their small animals and playing with them, except its only a few employees. But the petco in my area do not handle theirs, they must not be small animal people. When they pick them up, they scoop them up with the igloos. I've also noticed that they have put males with females, on accident.

Also, in my petsmart, I saw a mouse with either a broken or swollen tail. It was sad, becuase their was blood all over its paws, and near the glass window. I was going to tell a store associate, except I had my 3 month old puppy with me and had to go. But when I went the next two or three days (I go to petstores alot, I like looking at all the animals at the shelters stationed in them,) the mouse was gone, so I assumed they got it better or, maybe took it to a vet.

the PETCO in Gadsden is still the nicest pet store i've been to.

I went to the PETSMART in Huntsville yesterday and I was looking at the small animals. I got to the "black bear" hamster cage and realized that there was a DEAD hamster lying in there. Under some of the bedding. there were 5 hamsters in there altogether. 6 including the dead one. nobody working there even knew about it so I told someone. i pointed it out and she looked in the cage and when she saw it she was like, ohh. yeah. and looked kinda embarrased and then just left.
