Though, the one time I ventured halfway across the world to go to a Petsmart, there was a guy there who seemed to know a lot about them. I vote Petsmart.

That's about how many people work there anyway. They'd just be replacing dumb guys with smart guys. The guys I saw a Petco yesterday knew nothing. ALL of them knew NOTHING. This is not something I would defend. Somebody should know something.

Well, ONE person could know about ONE type of animal. They could have a small animals guy, who works in the small animals department and knows about small animals. They could have a fish guy who works with the fish and knows about fish, and a bengal cat guy....
That's about how many people work there anyway. They'd just be replacing dumb guys with smart guys. The guys I saw a Petco yesterday knew nothing. ALL of them knew NOTHING. This is not something I would defend. Somebody should know something.
Yes, there could be one person per department, but the shops I was referring to employ 2-3 workers TOPS per shop. (And yes, I know this for a fact, since one of them I go to once a week) The other one I've been to fairly often and once again it's the same 2-3 people there and each shop has given me bad advice for fish and use PINE for hamsters.. and appear to think that's just dandy and safe.
And yes, someone should know something.. good luck getting the animal they are aware of on their shift.. its crazy.
Edited to add the shop I got Kipper at said its fine to have 2 syrians together. Just not 2 males.. think they said 2 females are ok and male and female = lots of babies. Chew on that. (I only asked curious of what they would say, by the way)

My Petco was, last time I went for supplies, really awesome. They keep syrians in different cages, a pair of dwarves in one cage, and another pair in another cage. In fact, I got my dwarves from Petco, and Hazel lived through her average lifespan, and Lilian is still going. The lady who sold me the dwarves seemed to know alot about hamsters, too. I can't remember what bedding they were using, but, the cages were pretty clean.
I vote Petco!

Which is more likely?
People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals, what a bunch of losers they are working torward having hamsters and other animals treated right and not have to suffer being breed at mills and sent to a store who may or may not treat then right.PETA is stupid they r such lyers
Perhaps your store tells you the truth, OH wait they claim to only adopt out animals and will put stickers claiming this on guinea pig, rat, and hamster cages, but in the VERY fine print of Petsmarts disclaimer only dogs and cats are considered animals, and while every once in awhile they may adopt out a guinea pig or hamster 99 percent of the time they are a return and they can not legally re-sell them.
TO everyone that said "MY pet store is great have you ever seen they backroom or mills the animals come from.
