And my PETsMART uses apsen shavings, proper wheels, usually okay staff, and a vet checking in twice a week.

I don't think the manager really cares to much about the animals but more of what people will think of him.
I don't have a PetCo over here but I have places like Super Pets and PetCetera. There not that good but PetCetera has tame hamsters

I like the Petcos here though...they aren't exactly geniuses when it comes to animals but they do a good enough job that it really doesn't bug me. They play with the animals, everything (cages, food, water, etc.) is clean, and the cages have igloos and toys and things like that.
I have to say I have fallen in love with Pet Supplies Plus though lol. Everything was just...so...perfect when I was there last week. That's the first time I've ever really payed attention in there, because usually we just go in, get the dog food or whatever, and leave lol. Yeahhh...

like they seem to care more what the customers think, than the actual animals they sell.
or how they use the food from yesterday, put that at the bottom and than put new food on top of that (so your hamster could be eating week old food, thats been pottied on.)
They do completely take out all of the bedding and whipe everything down, weekly but they fluff up the bedding and make everything look nice, so that you'd assume they do it more often.
they do seperate M and F, but they should also keep them individually IMO.

While my local shops house the Syrians in their own cage seperate, BUT use Pine bedding.
In short: it seems every place does one bad thing for these animals. Makes me wish I could take more in and save them from those living conditions, but we can't.
