I haven't been to Petco much, but at Petsmart they have little wheels for syrians to run on, and have them together in a small tank. That conerns me. I think I'm just ranting now. By the way, it's pregnant not pregnet. :p

My PetSmart is very good, they have all of their syrians seperate, and all of the dwarves in small same groups. Plus they all are males, and they have a vet who goes there once a week to check on all of the animals.

Ooo same with you hayley, my PETsMART...but they keep the young syrians together. Once they are 8-9 weeks old they seperate them.

And my PETsMART uses apsen shavings, proper wheels, usually okay staff, and a vet checking in twice a week.

See that shockls me..cause both the Petco and Petsmart down where I live are wonderful! They check on the animals every 30-60 minutes..and keep them in seperate cages (male/female) and also have tons of toys and treats and a HUGe wheel in them. So ours aren't bad..but some can be pretty nasty like one about a mile away from me :/

Sadly their are good Petco's/Petmart's and then the bad ones. It all depends who the manger is there. If they have one who could care less about animals then the animals will suffer. If you have a manger who loves animals then you'll have a good one. Its really sad to see that some people can be so cruel.

My PETsMART sells only male small animals.

I don't think the manager really cares to much about the animals but more of what people will think of him.

I don't have a PetCo over here but I have places like Super Pets and PetCetera. There not that good but PetCetera has tame hamsters :)

Yeah I don't have a PetCo here either, and by the sounds of it I should be thankful for that XD

The only thing I like about Petsmart is that they only sell one sex...but then I guess that's no fun if you want to buy a female something-or-other and the Petsmart by you only has males lol.

I like the Petcos here though...they aren't exactly geniuses when it comes to animals but they do a good enough job that it really doesn't bug me. They play with the animals, everything (cages, food, water, etc.) is clean, and the cages have igloos and toys and things like that.

I have to say I have fallen in love with Pet Supplies Plus though lol. Everything was just...so...perfect when I was there last week. That's the first time I've ever really payed attention in there, because usually we just go in, get the dog food or whatever, and leave lol. Yeahhh...

The petco around me is pretty good, but I do dislike some of the things about them.

like they seem to care more what the customers think, than the actual animals they sell.

or how they use the food from yesterday, put that at the bottom and than put new food on top of that (so your hamster could be eating week old food, thats been pottied on.)

They do completely take out all of the bedding and whipe everything down, weekly but they fluff up the bedding and make everything look nice, so that you'd assume they do it more often.

they do seperate M and F, but they should also keep them individually IMO.

The petco around me is horrible.  My sister got a dog from there and it died only 2 days later! TWO!  They didn't even refund the money.

I noticed that Petco DOES house the Syrians with other (several other) Syrians. But on the same hand they use the BEST bedding.

While my local shops house the Syrians in their own cage seperate, BUT use Pine bedding.

In short: it seems every place does one bad thing for these animals. Makes me wish I could take more in and save them from those living conditions, but we can't.

Well our pesmart is eccellent, though they only have male hammies(which is annoying) they take good  care of the hamster s and other animals, they even have an onsite vet there 24/7!
