Snakes are natural predators of hamsters, so hamsters are naturally afraid of snakes.  And the hamsters we have are domesticated, thus being used to humans resulting in far less stress in hamsters when living with humans.  I had mentioned before that this maybe an exception, but in general, its a stressful situation for any hamsters.

I don't understand why some can feel complete indifference towards the same species of the their own beloved pets.  Your pets are lucky to be your pets, being loved and cared for.  But if they are unlucky, they are born as feeder hamsters, with no proper food and care, and ended up as "food" for snakes with ppl saying happily that its okay since snakes always eat mice and hamsters.  In nature, snakes prey on hamsters and mices which are mostly the weak and the old ones.  That's part of nature's population control, I have nothing to say about that.  But in an artificial environment, snakes are given an advantage by being fed healthy mice and hamsters without the need for hunting.  I guess there is no other choices in a zoo but that doesn't mean that it is right to do so.

No offenses, but try to imagine; if you are born to be a feeder for a tiger/lion/crocodile/any other predator, will you be happy about it?  Let's say if you ended living happily with that predator, and it got on news and ppl are saying "Hey, its awesome!", would you be happy and proud about it?

i dont feel indifference to that hamster at all.  im glad it seems to be happy.  hamsters arent really domesticated, they are still pretty much wild animals.  just because we keep them for pets doesnt automatically domesticate them.  yes you can tame your hamster but it is not "domesticated".  the hamsters raised as feeders are JUST as "domesticated"  as pet hamsters by the way.  im sorry you think the zoo is being cruel.  i will not presume to claim whether it is "right" for the zoo to feed a hamster to a snake or not but i definately wont judge them for it.  and i really dont the hamster cares one way or another if it makes the news or anyone thinks it awesome.  :)

That is wierd how the snake isn't like trying to do anything about the hamster. It looks like they are getting along pretty well.

Th hamster looks as though it is behaving normally despite the snake, trying to burrow and dig, eating, sleeping ... They look quite happy. I'm not sure tough. :undecided:
