Jeepers crow, that's rough... I don't know much about them, except that they are social creatures so they need company and a big enough tank so there isn't fighting.
Maybe you could use this to talk your parents out of it.

We are currently on vacation and my brother has recently become obsessed with getting a hermit crab but the problem is that he has no idea how to care for them and won’t research them. We are 5/6 hours away from home. Would it even be safe to travel that far with them? Any good sources that show good care? I really have no idea where to start because he is getting one no matter what in about two days.
Any help or sources would be highly appreciated
*rubs together hands and gets ready to break out the crab advice that’s been in the corner of my head the last 4 1/2 years*
The main problem with hermit crabs is the diverse environment they need.
First off, Hermet crabs must be kept in at least pairs (preferred 3)
Along with needed to be kept in oairs, they are easily stressed, so on a long car ride, they may end up fighting
… hermet crabs can be kinda moody lol
Another note, hermet crabs need both *TRUE salt water (not just salt in water) and good clean water (not sink water), along with plenty of substrate
