Hi :) I have two female guinea pigs, Chestnut and Cookie, and I'm concerned one or both of them are overweight. I just weighed them yesterday and Chestnut is 1040 grams, and Cookie is 1193g. If they are overweight, how do you recommend I help them lose weight? I give them unlimited hay, 1/2 tablespoon pellets each, and 1 cup veggies each currently. Thanks :valentine:

It could very well be that your pigs are on the larger side and not overweight, but we aren't able to tell generally with just a weight measurement.

Take a look at this weight chart by oxbow, essentially you'd want your pigs to be in the middle range.

They should be slightly pear shaped, and when you pet them you should be able to slightly feel their bones.

Spoiler

Their diet now sounds just fine, given that they're getting a variety of veggies and also the pellets are high quality :)

Thank you! I think they're probably just on the larger side.
