Haven't posted on here in awhile! Mostly things have been fine with Kevin, i was loaded last month so i couldn't do much 1on1 time with him but he's still eating from my hand and getting used to standing on it and i do plan to do some free roaming eventually aswell as getting a sand bath. He's running on his wheel every night too

The reason i have come to the forum is to inquire about his chewing. I got really worried like 2 months ago that he wasn't wearing his teeth down and bought a few wood chews, some other kind, and some kind of safe cement and he hasn't seemed all to engaged with them and not at all engaged with the different natural wood chews i put in.

He has though, become into chewing the top parts of his hideout chambers.

I don't mind getting a new one, which i assume i'll have to do in a few months if he keeps this up, but i just have to wonder... why?? i put at least 2 of the wood chews in there with him but they'd just been ignored from the look of it. Does anyone know why he's so obsessed with chewing the top of his hideout?? im genuinely baffled

My Syrian does the same with her hide but she chews the circle part and underneath the hide, it's a multi chamber hideout as well. She also chews the legs of her platform's. She has alot of toys with different textures but My only guess is she is bored so she chews on it.

I think that they may be more interested in things that smell like them so that is why your hammy is chewing his house more than the chew toys. You could try putting one or two in the house but from experience and like blue said, they often find something to chew and stick to that and it happens to usually be the house or platforms XD

It's not bad in the sense of health but I'm sure it can get frusturating. Have you tried Whimzee's as a chew toy? They are hamster safe dental dog treats. I find that my hammy likes to drag them to his house and chew because it tastes good.
