Recently a well respected breeder, Hubba Hubba Hamstery, posted saying that it’s fine to wake up your hamster for play and taming. What is your guy’s opinion on this? Personally I disagree as waking up your hamster can be quite stressful, it’s mostly done for YOUR benefit (you could wait until they wake up!), and, also, it’s important our very active hamsters get their much needed rest. I only agree with waking your hamster up for emergencies/vet visits (duh) and sometimes cage cleaning.
Hamsters don't actually sleep all day, they wake up and eat every 2-3 hours. As long as you give them plenty of down time, especially in the morning, I don't see anything wrong with it. =) as part of their routine.

I don't think it's particularly harmful (imagine if there was a no-waking rule for kids), but don't be surprised if you end up with a grouchy hamster on your hands.
If you plan to do this daily, it's probably best to establish a consistent schedule, so they can adjust and not be caught off-guard.

In my opinion, I think you should not wake up your hamster, unless it is an emergency or you are cleaning his/her cage. If you see that your hamster is awake and active then it is a great time to play with them! ![]()

i agree with you- it's more of a convenient time for the owner when they wake up their hamster to play. the hamster more than likely will tell you when they want out. this is when they for sure will have a much happier time out of their cage.
