These are my two female mice, willow and Tara. They live in a 20 gallon long tank, which is a bit small but if I fill it with stuff they don’t seem to mind. I do want to upgrade them however, so that they can live their best little mouse lives. They also run around in their playpen almost every night.I’ve only had them for about 2 months, so I’m still trying to improve their care. Any advice would be appreciated!
Pics of my babies and their cage! (Sorry for the blurriness lol)

They're adorable! I love the rope toy and log you have.
For quality of life changes, I would try and add more bedding if you can! Mice are both a burrowing and climbing animal, so they need tons of bedding. I would try and go for 8+ inches.
20 gallons works for mice, but if possible I would try and aim for bigger, bigger is better for mice, they have massive territories in the wild. I personally really like 40 gallons and 55 gallon aquariums for mice, or something similar in size as It allows for both climbing and burrowing in mice. Bin cages can make really good setups for mice as well.
What kind of food do you feed them?
I hope this can help, have a great day! ![]()

I feed them mazuri rat and mouse blocks and mimi mouse and Reggie rat food as their main food. I usually give them some healthy veggies and fruits every other day, and pasta and wheat based cereal mixed in with their food sometimes. They seem to enjoy it, and I’m pretty sure it meets their nutrition requirements, but if there are any changes I can make, let me know!
Hi! I hadn't actually heard of Mimi mouse & Reggie rat food, it seems really good. The fiber is a bit low in it, but that's not a big concern, especially since your giving them wheat cereal. I wouldn't directly mix the cereal and pasta into the food, as you're changing the GA of the food, but just giving a piece or two when you feed them.
I'm going to assume that your mice aren't show mice, as my information below may not apply to show mice. But if this is an incorrect assumption, I apologize profusely:
If possible, I'd recommend avoiding Mazuri Rat & Mouse food. The protein levels are really high on it, and high protein can cause hotspots on mice,
(Hotspots are where mice get really itchy patches on their shoulders and back, and will itch to the point of injuring themselves.) and poor coats.
Mazuri Rat and mouse food has protein levels of about 23% The recommended protein for most pet mice is 12-15%
Hope this can provide some help. Have a good day! ![]()

Oh I didn’t know that about mazuri food! Thank you! What pellet food would you recommend for mice?
Hi!
Personally I don't use a pellet food for my mouse, I would recommend just using one food mix, the Mimi mouse & Reggie rat food looks pretty good. If possible I would switch over to that, to prevent picky eating, just regulate the amount you give them, I'd recommend feed one tsp or 3-5 grams per mouse everyday. This should help with picky eating.
Hope this helps!
