I have been looking into easy to care for pets and I stumbled upon sea monkeys...

I was like a magnet, due to the likeable name (sea monkeys).

Anyways, have any of you guys owned them?

How expensive are they?

What do they need to have a good life?

How many do you keep at a time?

Are they easy to care for?

What do they eat?

thanks, nibbles!

I think they are easy, you just buy a kit and follow the instructions. They're a kind of brine shrimp I believe. You can get kits off amazon. It comes with food, etc. Pretty cheap and you feed them once in a while. Never have to change the water, VERY low maintenence

Sea monkeys are...brine shrimp. I've had them before but they all died in a month...

They're pretty easy to take care of, and everything you'll need come in a sea monkey kit, including food. (they are available on amazon)

Their food is green powder...I really don't know much care besides what's given on the care packet. They only cost about 15 dollars.

Fun fact: Sea monkey colonies can live up to 5 years

If someone gets them we can start a hatching thread/PM or something, I really want them too lol

Same lol

Yes!

so, i looked on amazon us, here are some results: https://www.amazon.com/s?k=sea+monkeys&crid=3K281M1Y1BBPN&sprefix=sea+monk%2Caps%2C172&ref=nb_sb_ss_ts-doa-p_1_8

But its all sets for "kids". I want something that makes me look serious in owning them. Not "magic castle" or "volcano"...

I had Sea Monkeys when I was younger. I don't know much their proper care though as I just had the children's kits. There's lots of information on brine shrimp care online. Sea Monkey is a marketing term, like teddy bear hamster.

The green powder you feed them is dried spirulina. You can buy it online and it's cheaper than buying the official little sachets.

You can start out with a kit like this but if you want to keep them well you'll want to upgrade to 5 or 10 gallon tank eventually. The kit will be easier to start out with because the water conditioner contains just the right amount of salt etc for the tank, so you don't need to calculate anything. When you get a larger tank you'll have to work out how to get the water right for them.

So they only eat one thing? Just spirulina?

How many live in there at a time?

And what are the cheapest 5-10 gallon tank you can find?

I believe so

How many live in there at a time?

IDK, they just hatch and breed and continue a colony

And what are the cheapest 5-10 gallon tank you can find?

I don't think it has to be 5-10 gal (then again, my info was from r/seamonkeys which is believe is fairly reliable?), I am starting out using the link I PM'ed you and I will move them to something like this: https://www.amazon.com/Marina-CUBUS-Glass-Betta-Kit/dp/B003TM3B3O/ref=sr_1_11?dchild=1&keywords=sea+monkey+tank&qid=1633102051&sr=8-11

I'm pretty sure you can't have fake plants, rocks, and most decorations as they can get crushed.

Yes, the tank probably doesn't have to be as big as 5 gallons, it just depends on how big you want to go and many you want to keep. They'll breed so you can keep as many as your tank has space for.

Apparently they can also eat dried yeast or egg yolk (I assume hard boiled and sprinkled in the water) but I don't think they have very complex diets.

This discussion is making me want sea monkeys again so I need to do more research.

A 5-10g tank shouldn’t be super expensive. I got my 10g off-sale for only $15 and I’d imagine a 5g (well technically 5.5g is more common) would be even cheaper.
