Hi, This is Argos my sisters dog, who suddenly has had some facial swelling, a little around his lips and nose, mostly his eyes. It's started to get a bit better, it was worse earlier, but we've been applying Ice packs, and cold wet clothes to the swelling. We think he's having an allergic reaction to something, not sure what at the moment. (any ideas would be great!) His teeth are pretty covered in plaque, I'm hoping to get that taken care of for him soon, but it doesn't seem to be an infection causing the swelling at least. He has a vet appointment on Wednesday for neutering and a skin tag removal, We're hoping to get medicine then. We were planning on giving him Benadryl if it gets really bad again. But does anyone have advice on how to help alleviate this and make him more comfortable, he doesn't seem to be in much pain, but does seem to be itchy and some clear discharge.

Any advice would be great.

Images don't appear to be eligible to post for me atm, apologies.

Respectfully, Wednesday is much too long to wait for a dog with facial swelling. Facial swelling can cause the airways to close, or be caused by something else besides allergies that left untreated can have dire consequences. Your vet is also highly unlikely to want to perform elective surgery on a dog with facial swelling. You should be calling an ER vet now, not waiting.

Hi, This was a definite consideration, but as his swelling was only moderate, and it was going down, we were going to see what happened, if it got worse he would've been set up an emergency appt. Since it was only a very small amount of swelling around the nose, he was under constant moderation in case of a situation like you described. His swelling completely subsided on it's own by the end of the day, and didn't even touch the inside of his nose.
