Has anyone experienced needing an eye removed with their guinea pigs? Just wondering...my senior is getting an eye removed tomorrow. He has eyelid paralysis and unending infections. We've tried nearly everything and even did a culture to see if there's antibiotic resistant bacteria. I'm scared because I read a lot about pigs not doing well under anesthesia. I don't care about the eye being removed since he's already blind with cataracts.

All the guinea pigs I've cared for have been under anesthesia as they were all fixed and all of them made it through. In my area, it's more common to put guinea pigs under anesthesia than what I know from the USA, where guinea pigs are often left unfixed. Almost all the guinea pigs I've known have been fixed under anesthesia and none passed. Make sure the correct dosage is given, and the proper aftercare is given. :)
