hello!

i have two dogs, aged 7 and 8.

the 7 year dog is an american pit/ beagle/ boxer/ lab mix, and shes the one im concerned about. ever since we got her 2 years ago, she has always had skin issues. we have switched her food, tried different dog shampoos, tried allergy shots, allergy wipes, skin lotion stuff. legit everything the vets can think of. nothing helps. the lotion stuff provided temeprary relief after the rash had already happened.

so the only thing we can really think of left to try is a homeade or raw food diet, as we have heard that helps with better skin and coats.  right now we feed purina beneful (ik its not the best, but that was what she was on at her previous home so we were trying it).

so anyway, we havent done much research into this, just skimmed the top. what i think would work best for my family is a homeade diet of meats, vege, and grains such as rice. has anyone done this with there dogs, did you notice an imprvement in skin and coat? would this be a good idea to try?

also, would we need one of those vitamin supplement things?

ive neever done homeade diets before so any tips would be appreciated.

Has she seen a veterinary dermatologist? At this point, that sounds like the next step. A veterinary allergist may help as well, both to help rule out allergies, to design a strict elimination diet, and to try the more advanced allergy medications available today. The derm is to rule out other sources of the issue.

Homemade diets do work well for many dogs, but designing one, especially for an unknown health condition, is beyond the scope of this forum and best done under the advice of a veterinary nutritionist, as it is easy to cause more issues with an unbalanced diet.
