Hi everyone! My cousin recently got a rabbit from a friend that couldn’t take care of him anymore he was in a small cage, she now free roams him in her room. He’s having some trouble transferring from a water bottle to a water bowl. Anyone have tips or suggestions?

Thanks in advance!  :)

Hello! :)

What do you mean by “having some trouble”? I’m sure he’ll start drinking from it soon enough. It might take a little bit for him to get used to it, but rabbits are certainly smart enough to figure out a water bowl. :)

hello, of course the bowl would be a little bit more natural, but the bottle is not all that bad. i would offer both, so that they have the choice. the rabbit will figure out the bowl if they want to, they can be stubborn and when they have there mind set on the way things should be, they want it there way lol

What I did with Oreo to get her to use a bowl, was I just completely took away the bottle and gave her a dish. Soon enough she figured out how to use the dish because she needed water.

I mean he is only wanting to drink from the water bottle, he’s having some trouble learning how to drink from a water bowl because he is so used to a bottle.

I believe she did take it away? I’ll ask her.

From what I’ve gathered, offering a water bowl is purely for the ease of the rabbit. They drink a lot of water, and having to drink from a bottle can be a bit tedious/difficult for them. It’s sort of like forcing a dog to drink from one—a bit odd, and not exactly ideal. But, if their rabbit really doesn’t feel the need to use a bowl that’s their choice I suppose, although I would still offer a bowl just in case.
