Today my hamster, Whitey, escaped! I went to check on them this morning but they wasn’t there also the bag of peanuts was ripped open and I think Whitey ate a lot of the peanuts, I searched everywhere for Whitey and finally found it hiding in the corner of our food storage closet. I gave it some water and went to grab some treats and a cup (also Whitey was shivering when I was there which it don’t usually do but it could also be because I got them two days ago) then I put the treats in the cup and let Whitey climb in then I put him back into his cage. I was just about to put the water back in when I noticed a white worm think in it wriggling! I immediately dumped the water in the sink… I hope that wasn’t from Whitey… I hope it didn’t eat anything bad from the closet… he did eat a LOT of peanuts though so when should I feed them again?
Hello!
First of all, do you know how Whitey got out? That’s a very important thing to know, otherwise they could escape again. Maybe you left the lid/door propped open? Or maybe there’s a hole they chewed? If you look over the cage and you’re still not sure how they got out, you can try watching them in their cage to see if they’ll show you how they did it.
As for what you said about the worm, I’m confused. What sort of container was the water in? Did you leave it unattended while you put Whitey back in their cage? How big was the worm?
If your hamster looks okay, I wouldn’t be too worried about the fall. Hamsters are surprisingly tough when it comes to things like that. I had a hamster who fell about 4ft before and ended up being okay.

Keep feeding him his normal seed mix, but I would wait maybe 5 days to feed them again, but if you just got them two days ago it may be better to leave them alone without interaction-there settling into their new environment, and now their calming down from the escape. Hamsters tend to chew rather than consume most of the time, so they likely didn't ![]()

I noticed you already made a topic on that and people asked some pretty good questions, so I'd suggest looking their to keep it more organized ![]()

Might have ate what?
Hamsters have two types of poops, one of which they do eat. What makes you think he's struggling to poop?
