:)

So, for the past few months Jack has had a cloudy/shiny eye. We saw a few different vets, including a specialized dog eye doctor. Eventually (previously they discussed amputation) they gave us some eyedrops that we've been using, and its mostly gone. He wore a cone for a bit as well. They said its doing better but its not glaucoma, a scratch, or old age (hes 3ish) and they don't know what it is. They also said its in both eyes but only visible in the left. He has a recheck 4 months from now.

So the eyedrops have been working well and he seems to have no discomfort or anything.

Jack has been using Seresto Large Flea/Tick Collars since we adopted him (2, maybe 3 years ago) with no problem, and we rarely find ticks on him (probably only 4 in all the time of owning him).

One of my parents coworkers said that in their experience, their dogs had eye problems like cloudiness after using them. My parents are considering switching to a pill instead. I did some random google searches and came across this-

https://www.usatoday.com/story/news/investigations/2021/03/02/seresto-dog-cat-collars-found-harm-pets-humans-epa-records-show/4574753001/

Any thoughts on if this is true and/or which form of preventative is the most effective or may work the best? Thank you in advance! :)

We use frontline on our dogs which is like a liquid that goes on the scruff of their neck once a month, we’ve never had an issue with it nor have we ever found a tick on them. I would  stop using the collar just to be sure or ask your vet what they think. Good luck!

All flea and tick preventatives work because they are poison. As such, every product on the market has big scare stories floating around the internet. It's highly unlikely that the collar is at all related to his eye issue. If your parents want to switch, the best source of information for what products work best in your area and for your specific pet, is your vet. Many products work great in some parts of the country, but not others. Your vet will know what works well where you live, and what they think would be safest for Jack.

As far as the eye goes, sounds like it may be time for a specialist ophthalmology consult.

Thanks for the suggestion! Will look into it :)

We'll ask our vet :)

He's already had a few appointments with an opthamologist-thats where we got the eyedrops. Originally out usual vet just gave us a cone, some pain medication, and said to wait it out and see if it gets better.
