Hello!

I’ve been wanting to upgrade my male betta to a 10 gallon tank (he lives in a 3 gallon). I’m not sure if it will happen anytime soon but I’ve been researching to see if there are any possible tank mates to live with him. If anyone has answers to my questions it would be appreciated. :)  (also, I’m quite new to fish-keeping so if these sound like simple questions I apologize XD)

Can Ember Tetras live with a betta in a 10 gallon? If they can, how many?

What other tank mates are possible?
Is there a specific way to introduce my betta to new fish?

How long should I quarantine the new fish before adding them to my betta tank?

Thanks in advance! :goodvibes:

Hi there!

I'm quite new to fish keeping also so I'm not sure how to answer these questions. Since it's a hamster forum, not many people on here are experienced fish keepers. I think I only know 1 - 3 people on this forum who are active and have this hobby.

But if you want, you can join these forums- or, you can just wait for somebody to reply that's more experienced than me

Probably not that helpful but-good luck with your betta! :goodvibes:

Hi!

Generally, you want to go for fish that aren't bright, flashy or similar size to a betta as they could pontentially fight.

I'm saying from experience, don't go with fancy guppies. I've made the mistake of doing so, and their tail fins got bitten off partially and one died from stress.

Maybe shrimp? You're going to want to make sure that a)- the stocking is good, so all fish have at least their own minimums b)- they won't attract attention for fighting and that c)- you can care for both of the fishs' needs in one tank. I've also heard female bettas do better with other species, though I'm not entirely sure, so maybe you could upgrade Sassy instead?

If your tank isn't planted, maybe you can add live plants?

Tell me what you think :)

also tysm for subscribing musical!

I would avoid adding other fish in a tank that size; 10g is already quite small even for 1” fish, and with a betta you want some space so they can separate if need be. Inverts make for great tankmates though as long as you can stay on top of your water parameters. Snails and shrimp are the most common; you could really use any species you want as long as it’s compatible with your tank size (ex apple snails probably wouldn’t be great since they can get quite big).
