Hello... It's been a while since I posted.

I've gotten two yong female gerbils (Tsunade & Shizune). I've only had them for about 3 days so far. They are currently in the Prevue 528, but I have a 20 gallon tank I'd like to attatch to it. Does anyone have any ideas on how to do this? The tank would be filled with bedding.

I was thinking cutting two entrances into the bottom of the current cage and using ladders/bendy bridges/ramps between them. That's no problem, but the cage doesnt fit snuggly on top of the tank. Could I attatch it with some really strong tape around it? But then theres the issue of taking it off to clean the tank.

Pictured is how the two cages fit together

Things in the cage have been moved and changed since this was taken, as the girls are home now ^_^

Well, if you could, you could take a bendy tube to connect your hamsters to the tank. to cover up the rest of the gap, maybe gets some wood cut to place it in, or carboard. whatever you can use.

You could make a wooden platform that goes on top of the tank. You could put holes in that too. I drew smth like what im saying

so, the red part is the wood (first pic) and the circle things r the holes. So it can connect. And then maybe attach the board onto the tank so its also like a platform for the cage. But then you should attach the board so it can come off (maybe like a cabinet door) easily.

to clean, if you use my idea, you could just take the cage off and temporarily seal the holes or place it where bedding cant fall out of the holes. Then you can just open the lid and clean the tank like that.

do you think you could try uploading the pictures again, the links won’t work for me. Also, would the wood just sit on top of the tank? how would i secure it? maybe the pictures would help me understand better lol

no, the wood wouldn’t just sit on the tank. You could make it like a door that opens up. And i think you could just attach it to the tank with superglue (could someone verify the glues that are safe to use). So when you clean, the piece of wood would be attached to the tank like a door so just take the top cage off and then open the door part then clean the bedding.

Well it would be more like two pieces of wood. The bottom that connects (just a frame) and then the lid. cuz yeah

Unfortunately cutting holes in the cage base wouldn't be a good idea as it would create two clearly defined areas (the tank + the cage above) which can be a trigger for declanning. The gerbils are also highly likely to chew the base and escape at some point.

I have a wood and mesh topper for one of my tanks. If you're able to do DIY, that's a very good option. You can see that they can just jump up to the white painted platform from the tank so there are no narrow pinch points there that could cause tension.
