Hi! I did see the other post about flying saucers, but I didn't find anyhting there about the right size flying saucer for a syrian hamster. I know that lots of people said that you shouldn't get a flying saucer, but I really think that my hamster would like one. I do already have a wheel for her, so the flying saucer would not be replacing a regular wheel. I'm not completely sure that I will be getting one, but I think that Greta (my hamster) would enjoy having one.  :hamster5:

Hello! :)

I wouldn’t recommend getting a flying saucer. I actually had a 12” one for one of my Syrians. They take up a lot of space, cause the hamster to run at an odd angle, and are very flimsy in my experience (I accidentally broke mine in half while cleaning it, hence the past tense). The 7.25” inch one is more sturdy and takes up considerably less space, but my mice can barely run on that without their backs bedding, so I don’t think that would work well for a Syrian. :)

Hamsters are actually species, not breed. And based on the post I'm assuming Greta is a syrian hamster :)

Syrians need 12 inch flying saucers

Dwarf hamsters need 6.5 in sized flying saucers

Hope I helped!

Oh sorry!

And yes unless you have a gigantic hamster cage don't get a flying saucer. Basically listen to Remy.

Thank you for you're help! I will (maybe) look into a 12" flying saucer  :valentine:  I think I might have the space in my cage, but I'm not positive. I will discuss with my hammy (yes I do that, and, yes I know it's weird).

This is completely your decision, and if you still want to go ahead with getting a flying saucer, that’s fine! All I’ll say is there are a lot of items, that could be far more enriching, that could take up this space.
Once again, if you still want to get a saucer, that’s fine! You’re not replacing the wheel. This is just my opinion.

My Syrians have a 30cm flying saucer in their out of cage time freeroaming area. They both run on it and i think it is a great floor toy for a hamster playground. Like the big, long, bendy tunnels they love, the saucer is a bit of a novelty for them because those toys are too big for their cages.

What breed is Greta?

For dwarfs-6.5 and Syrians 8 inch. If that doesn't work - try a 10 or 12 inch. They can be a little fussy about it, my ham didn't run on his wheel, but when he got an 8 inch, I hear him use it SO MUCH! Hope this helps, not to be rude - I am not a big fan of flying saucers (sry i dont wanna sound rude)

I beg to differ.

Since flying saucers already curve their backs (no matter how big it is), it's imperative that you provide a larger flying saucer.

I recommend a minimum of 8 inches to a dwarf, and a minimum of 10 to a syrian though I recommend more.

Hope you understand :)

Yeah, totally. We all have are hamstering ways! My hamster would probably go flying off of the saucer lol. He has a 8 inch rn and it is fine for him. Honestly depends on how big the ham is.
