One of my rats, Sunday, is sick with 2 separate things right now, the first one is what the vets said was a UTI (urinary tract infection) and basically shes having a hard time controlling her bladder, which had resulted in her peeing everywhere, and her pee is red with blood. She was taking a 10 day series of antibiotics, and she finished them, but it’s still the same. She’s at the vets as I’m writing this, but I just wanted to know if anyone else’s rats have had a UTI and if anything in particular has helped. The other things she’s sick with at the moment, we don’t know what it is. She has really bad scans on the top of her head, down her neck, and on her shoulders. When I did some research the one prominent thing was parasites, mites, fleas, etc. But I don’t know how she would’ve gotten these, none of the other rats have the same symptoms, and she’s not itching a ton. When we called the vet about it she said she doesn’t think it’s mites, but maybe the other rats bullying her? I’m just trying to figure out what’s wrong so that we can treat her, she’s currently separated from my other rats, and I feel horrible about it, so I really want to know what’s wrong so hopefully I can put them back together. I’d appreciate any and all advice you guys have to offer.

I am so sorry for what your going through, rats fighting, or dealing with an unknown condition can be horrible.

I've not dealt with UTI's, so I can't speak on that, but I've dealt with a lot of parasites, so if you use bedding, store bought food for any of your animals, their could be a risk of bringing parasites into your household, Symptoms of Parasites are;

Scabs behind the ears, chin and shoulder. Tiny red bugs in your animals fur. (only for lice.) or extreme itching, if you're other rats aren't showing any symptoms, it could be a skin issue?

Have you caught the other rats bullying her? I've had my hairless rat bullied so much, and when ever they'd fight, their would be extremely loud screams from the cage from all of them.

Since she is already separated. (A good idea to keep a close eye on her.) Watch to see if the scabs heal up, or still remain. I'm curious what fur type she is? Hairless, Rex, Normal. Because hairless rats can have dehydrated skin, that they might itch at often. I believe the same can happen to rex rats, as they bald when they get older, but I'm not sure.

Wishing you the best.

Thank you so much for all the tips, I’ve heard that they can get parasites from the bedding and food, etc, so I’ve gone ahead and frozen all those, but it just seems weird since none of my other rats have any symptoms. She’s going to be back from the vet in about an hour, so I’ll make sure to check about a skin issue then. She is a normal haired rat, she’s black so it makes it hard to see her scabs which is kind of annoying, I hadn’t noticed any of the other rats picking on her, obviously they would get into little squabbles, but that’s to be expected, I’ll make sure to look out for that though when I introduce them back together.

Thank you so so much for all the tips, I really appreciate it.

I'd carefully watch her when you put her back with the others to make sure they arent bullying her. Hoping for a speedy recovery!
