To be update regularly, for anyone caring to follow along.

Got my baby axolotls, they are in tubs eating live baby brine shrimp, and living microworms. Tried frozen bloodworms and newt pellets however they will only eat live foods that are moving at this stage. When older they’ll accept still non moving foods.

Their for life home will be a 55 gallon which is running now and was cycled successor using filter media from an established tank.

Specs when done:

55 gal tank
Penguin biowheel 200 filter
Aquarium cooling strip with 4 mini fans
Manopi driftwood
Terracotta pots as caves
T5 dual planted tank light
Pool filter sand substrate

Plant list:

Amazon frog bit
Anacharis
Java fern
Anubias coffeefolia
Pothos plant

Wisteria maybe
Hornwort maybe
Spider plant maybe
Red root floaters maybe

Animals:

Leucistic axolotl x1
Wild type axolotl x1

White Cloud Mountain minnows x4-6 (maybe, as disposable tank mates but perhaps not. Probably not adding fish to their setup though.)

I’m waiting for my plants to arrive I shall update this with pics this week!

I suppose can post pics of the axles. They’re so tiny yet around 2”. They are in bare bottom critter keepers with a tiny cave each so cute though!

Gosh, I LOVE axolotls! So excited to watch these babies grow.

If I trusted myself to manage water, I would totally get one. :)

I’m waiting for local hatchery to deliver my baby brine shrimps and then I will have a feeding video for you all but it might not be good quality. :(

The hamster, my long haired blonde Syrian male died over the weekend. I had adopted him when he was a bit older, I want to say 12-16 months old when I got him last year. I do not plan to replace him anytime soon.

This is a bit of what I’m going for. And I don’t mean I want it to look like his but I mean I’m using plants for the same purpose;

https://youtu.be/WRc6FWnytsc

And this below is mine just after setup before I orders Amazon frog bit which has nice flowing roots the axles can swim through. And provides shade I hope!

Be kind it’s new hasn’t grown in yet!

I am about to feed the babies their evening microworms and get pics. For now enjoy the first vid, feel free critique tank LOL.

I don’t plan to add them until they’re 2 more inches, I don’t trust them in sand.

Edit- my wild type baby axl

These are a few axolotl biotopes which have inspired the way I am going to be keeping and caring for my axolotls.

Added the Amazon frog bit

ejSOsv0.jpg

I removed the manopi wood as they were lowering the ph In the 6-6.5 range which I think is below ideal axle parameters. I replaced with a piece of manzanita wood and I don’t like it much, I’m keeping my eye out for the right piece of Malaysian branch driftwood.

I think the white one may be a bit impacted or it’s bloodworm in his stomach. I asked the breeder what substrate if any kept them on and that was 2 days ago.. no reply yet.

So they may have awhile to go. Definitely need more size!

I ordered lucky bamboo plant 18”-20” tall. I cannot wait to add them!
