Just sharing

Some people say no snak shak but I believe after seeing many experts on the forum, on YouTube and in rescues use them as hay feeders safely so I’m going to keep it in there.

They only eat hay out of it never cares to chew it.

Awesome! Your guinea pigs are so cute! :heartbeat: :veryhappy:

By the way, what type of bedding are you using? Pine? I've never seen wood bedding look so... fluffy.

I'm not an expert on piggies, but just wanted to say that hehe.

Yes it is kiln dried pine

There are two types of pine beddings for guinea pigs: the kiln-dried pine and scented pine. The first type of pine (kiln-dried pine) is safe to be used as bedding for guinea pigs because it has been dried and thermally processed (free from a strong scent and microorganisms).

^ researching that further I decided to give kiln dried pine shavings a try. They’re new to it I was using fleece and carefresh before.

Last shot the white one on the fiddlesticks is normally the more timid one but she’s improving so much with patience and work!

Just saw her on the bridge and thought i should share!

it looks nice!

i would add a lot more hay though, doesn't look like much

maybe some more enrichment too? it doesn't look like you have much in there other than hides. Some chews/boredom breakers would be good.

Well you know what? You are right. I will do it. I offer them applewood chews but they ignore them. I am going to get a few toys today. Will report back.

The shak i refill multiple times a day. Like anytime it runs out and they let me know too lol.
I keep a huge can filled with orchard grass, Timothy and some meadow hay.

If I knew a good hay rack safe for guineas I would do away with the shak.

oh, okay

i would just put a nice pile of hay in there.

worked well for a pair of sows i was pet sitting  years back.

they typically like to use it for nesting as well,  and this way you can provide more since piggies tend to go thru a lot.

you can DIY a hay feeder out of a cardboard box, cereal box, etc- just cut a large circle hole for them to get hay, use the top opening to refill, and ziptie/sisal string it to the c&c grid.

or bend a c&c grid to an arch and attach it to the 'wall' ones.

That doesn’t waste too much hay when you lay huge amounts of it down?

Nope!

They tend to eat most of it, and they're smart enough not to eat what they have urinated on.

I do prefer hay feeders since they waste less hay, but if you put the hay in the centre, not the corner, it'll be less likely that they'll pee on it.

You can just put a few large handfuls and see how it goes, and whether or not you like it.
