Which one?

I personally despise covered litterboxes.

Odours get trapped in them very quickly, and since litter boxes are generally used for cats and rabbits whom both have strong noses, it can be annoying for your pet.

It can cause respiratory issues as well, and both rabbits and cats have delicate respiratory systems. Espeicially since cats tend to dig in their litter, and bury their poop, it can cause a problem.

Both rabbits and cats need 2 ways out of a covered place. Most  Almost all covered litterboxes only have one entrance.

To add on, they're usually shallower than uncovered ones.

I find people usually use these for cats or rabbits saying it gives them a sense of security. If your cat or rabbit is timid and prefers to use the washroom in a covered space, covered litterboxes are still a no-go. Like I said, lack of ventilation and only one exit can cause a problem. DIYing your own cover out of 3 NIC grids/c&c grids is a much better way to provide security, as the ventilation is better. Simply drape a pillowcase on top of the cover and you have a more ventilated cover.

Other people use it saying that it's an eyesore to see a dirty litterbox. If it's dirty, then why isn't it cleaned????? You can just cover the litterbox with a nic grid/c&c grid cover like said.

I prefer uncovered litterboxes 100%.

There's also easy and cheap uncovered ones, such as 100 qt bins (for cats, since they need deep litter to bury their poop) or long, flat under-the-bed storage bins for buns.

I think it depends both on what you and your animal prefers. I know some cats who just prefer using a covered litter box, and some prefer a more open one. However I'm not too educated on the topic.

I've had a cat for 13 years. We have always used a cover as it prevents mess especially since she is quite the digger lol. I personally feel like cats will usually adapt to whatever you give them and won't give a <super> if there's only one entrance. As for the poor ventilation, there are usually ventilation holes and cats are never usually in there for more than 1-2 minutes. I don't know I feel like it really doesn't matter as my cat has been healthy in the respiratory department.

I also prefer un-covered litterboxes. All the odors get trapped in it and when you clean the litterbox, oof the smell will knock you off your feet! It's harder to find larger uncovered litterboxes, but I found one and while it's expensive, I just prefer that one. https://www.amazon.com/Petmate-Giant-Litter-High-Capacity-Color/dp/B0135X6ZBG/ref=sr_1_10?dchild=1&keywords=big%2BHigh%2BSided%2BCat%2BLitter%2BBox&qid=1607141459&s=pet-supplies&sr=1-10&th=1

I don’t have a super huge preference, I use a un-covered litter box, just because it’s so controversial, I’d prefer to just use whatever’s safer, if I had to pick one, it’s be uncovered, but I know people who use covered, and I don’t have a problem with it ( maybe that’s  just cus I’m a super non confrontational person, who knows)

A long time ago, when I had my rainbow cat panda, we used uncovered only. We personally just didn’t like covered. We also felt that there were far too many cons for covered. We didn’t have much issue with messiness and stuff, just the usual. Panda was happy. I’d also like to mention that covered wasn’t very popular back then where I live, so it was an obvious choice for uncovered.

My friend uses a covered one for her rabbits. It has a 2 way entry exit but she blocked 1 way with the wall/grid so it’s as good as 1 entrance. I think it’s a bit of a selfish reason, as they think it’s “too dirty to look at”. I can’t change their minds, all I can say is I wouldn’t recommend.
