Hi, I’ve got an exciting story to share!
Yesterday I was cycling, when I thought I saw a butterfly on the path. I decided to stop, as it was unusual to see a butterfly in such cold weather. It wasn’t moving, but I was worried it would get squashed by a bike. I gently scooped it up, and it attempted to fly, but something was wrong. It couldn’t fly. I let it crawl onto a plant at the side of the path, and watched it for a minutes. It didn’t move. It looked barely alive. I decided to take it home, bring it to warmth and give it sugar water/fruit. It stayed on my hand for the entire trip.
When I got home, I quickly put together an enclosure, using a tall bin and fruit nets for the top. He crawled inside. I gathered sticks, twigs, leaves and rocks which I put in the enclosure. I also gave him some fruit. I hope to release him when the weather is better, and in the meantime help him to fly.
He is a small tortoiseshell butterfly, and I think he’s a he. Have any name ideas?
If you have any advice or name ideas I would appreciate it! <3
