Can i just say im so angry. I hope you don't mind me venting about this but i get some people just don't wanna listen. Yesterday, I saw my fellow highschool classmate have 2 guinea pigs she posts it all over her story. While i know that im not an expert in guinea pigs..I can only assume she had a small cage because it was made by Kaytee. So i messaged her and told her. Her response was "I've had guinea pigs for years. They've always had a cage like that with 2 and they did just fine. The girl that had them also had guinea pigs for years and She had them for a year before giving them to me & they did fine in that cage. Like i said i've done my research about guinea pigs for years. I know my reasearch" I told her to do her research, because she has a cage like this then there is no way she knows anything about guinea pigs. And her only excuse is i done my research.. Sorry for the long rant.. I just hate to see someone validate such awful care for these animals :( And if you like please tell me more info about guinea pigs- im always happy to learn something new! :))

hey, i totally understand. I was in a similar situation with my family friend. She had two piggies (originally bought for her daughters but they were too young to care for properly) house in a 2' by 3' cage (they were free roam in x-pen for only 2 hours). I told her that it would be better for them to live in just the x-pen, or to join the two together, because the cage was wayyyy too small on its own, yet she didn't believe me because I was only 10 and I was 'wasting my time and i should study'

Eventually, i compiled facts, videos, images, links and more into a long email, and described the exact living needs of the pigs. I am now happy to say that they live in the 2' by 3' cage connected to the xpen with the door left open for them to roam freely!

Perhaps you could try an idea similar to this, compile lots of facts with trustworthy links, such as the ASPCA, and some video from youtubers, what other piggie owners say, and more, and then email her, or tell her.

It really makes me sad when small pets are kept incorrectly :(

I have a family friend who has a guinea pig in a similar situation. In terms of cage size, and while this isn’t true at all, but maybe say something like “those starter cages are just for baby guinea pigs which are a lot smaller, adult guinea pigs typically need larger cages so they can run around freely” (from experience I can sure as heck tell you those guinea pigs can’t move two steps in that cage; I know even one can’t)? I mean I suppose it doesn’t get to the root problem because her excuse is kind of hard to fight back at, but it’s something.

May also be worth telling her it’s ok to be misinformed and we all make mistakes and that sort of thing, especially with pet rodents. This may allow her to ease up a bit. :)

Side note: Kaytee actually makes a couple decently-sized guinea pig cages! Granted, they are the minimum 48x24”, but they’re not too bad.

I really understand you. It seems to me very important to tell your classmates or friends about this so that they understand that cells can be really small. Everyone has their own problems and I, besides the fact that I need to study and raise my guinea pigs, I need to write a thesis, with which I have huge problems. I contacted the company https://writix.co.uk/buy-dissertation-help, which is professionally engaged in helping students who do not have time to write a dissertation on time. I hope that the result will be very good.

I totally understand.
I was in a similar situation with a close classmate as well.

I compiled the facts and information but nothing was enough. I was upset at first but I knew that it was their pet. I had tried to help and talk but at the end of the day, it was their decision and there was nothing I could do to help.

My advice to you is inform them in a polite way but try not to take it personally if they refuse.

Good luck to the piggies!

Hello! :)

I just wanted to give you a gentle reminder to please check the date of these posts that you are replying to, many users aren't active anymore (for example this person, who hasn't been active since February) and therefore they likely won't see your advice. It's great that you are trying to help members out, I would definitely recommend checking out the "view new content" area or following the Guinea Pig forum so you are notified of when new things are posted.

Thank you for contributing to the forum!
