No one knows this, but ever since I was 3-4, I’ve fantasized over axolotls

I love them so much. And since I’ve discovered my love for scaly boi’s, it’s just grown stronger.

So I reeeeaaaally want an axolotl. I want to get a pink female axolotl!! My parents said I can get one when we move, so that’s what I’m gonna do!

So, it’s gonna take months until we move, so I have plenty of time to do research! Does anyone have any special tips? Ty! :)

Also, does it take any kind of bonding to keep them together or can you just put them in a biggish cage together and they’ll be fine?

I don't have any tips, but I'm excited for you to get an axolotl!

Keep us updated!

How does this list sound:

10 gallon tank (eventually 20L)
Aquarium filter
Freeze-dried bloodworms
Brine shrimp blocks for fish
Mini pH test kit
Tap water conditioner
White aquatic sand
Decor

Souds good! Except I would look into getting a tank cooler and the sand is controversial. Any chance you could get your hands on some earthworms? The tank size is also debatable, but as long as you plan to upgrade I don't see a problem.

Good luck!

Sounds good!
I want a leucistic (pink) axolotl as well, and I’m convincing my parents for another. Lol
Make sure to do lots of water changes, and to keep the nitrite under 40 ppm.
PVC pipes make awesome tunnels for axis’s, and apparently you can use hamster tubes for babies.
Beware, they can bite. It is startling, but it doesn’t hurt, nor break skin, as they only have rudimentary teeth. (Basically kinda like a jaw bone)
Bloodworms are an okay food, but they are mildly toxic to humans, most people don’t have a reaction to it, but some do. It can take the form of hives, or a really bad reaction. Just like any other substance though.

We actually keep it at 70-72F at day, and the water is colder, closer to 66F, it that okay for an axolotl? I can try to find some earthworms, they probably have some.

Okay so I do recommend getting a 20 gallon. Axolotls will need cold water under 70 degrees, they do best in 66 degrees or lower. I do recommend getting a fan unless u live in like the arctic or something lol. Axolotls are best housed alone in a 10 gallon long minimum I would recommend a 20 gallon long tho. Axolotls will need a filter and a strong one because they are waste machines, but moving water makes axolotls stressed since they like very still water so I would use a adjustable flow filter and set it on the lowest setting. I would use very fine sand as axolotls do nip at the ground so fine sand is easy for them to digest safely. I hope this helped!

Like I said, our house is cold because we have to have a lot of air conditioning, although I don’t know how cold it is in our new house so I may get a cooler, but it should be about 60F. Ik, but I have to keep him in the 10G temporarily, until I manage to get a 20L.

Yep I have a filter on my list, mkay, thanks!

Umm random question: do I have to use substrate for my axl?

Another random question thing: So if I get a nice filter, should I do a %20 water change once a week? Maybe more? Thanks!

Substrate is optional.

Regardless of the filter, I would still reccomend doing 20% water changes 1-2 times a week. You can use a turkey baster for daily spot cleaning.

Forgot to ask.
Where do you plan to get your axie?
(I’m not sure all pet stores are all this, but the one that I got toothless at kept 4 of them in a 7 gallon tank with a filter that took up most of the space, they also had no hides. All 4 of them were sick/injured, and since toothless had anchor worm from that pet store, he never fully grew back his leg)
Maybe try to get them from a rescue/ethical breeder. (I found an awesome rescue/ethical breeder only 1 hour away from me!)

Unfortunately yes u do need a substrate because if you don’t have one your axolotl will get stressed they have nothing to grip on. We all know stress is not good so I would just use some fine sand. Also so sorry I haven’t been able to respond I’ve been very busy,

Yeah I decided I’m using fine heat-treated water-safe etc. play sand :)
