Eco earth is perfectly safe for rats, my rats love to play and dig in it.
On a different random note, maybe encourage your friend to get a second rat, rats are very social and can actually die from depression/lonlyness.

I’m going through my old hamster stuff and giving stuff to my friend who has a rat. I’m giving her paper bedding, and if it’s safe for rats I’ll give her my eco earth coconut fibre substrate. Is it safe for rats?
Forgot to quote, look above ^^^

Thanks! Yup I’ve already tried convincing her. Her rat is from a rescue and she thinks that since she doesn’t know the rat’s age she can’t get a cage mate. Is this true? Or can the rats be different ages?Eco earth is perfectly safe for rats, my rats love to play and dig in it.

As a side note, Eco Earth shouldn’t use used as the main substrate as it has no odor control. It should be just for enrichment.
