Hello! It’s me rose back with another debate

So, this is a question that I think about a lot. Are there any animals you think should be “beginner pets?”

In my personal opinion, begginer pets really aren’t a good idea. I understand that we do have to start somewhere, however, I think that ends up with a lot of improper care for the animal. I think instead it should be family pets. So my personal vote was none.

A lot of people say fish and hamsters are good begginer pets, however I strongly disagree. I got a goldfish when I was 3, and as much as I loved animals, I had no idea how big of a tank my goldfish would need. At first, she was in a tiny fishbowl. And I mean like 2 gallons. She soon grew out of that, so I got a 10 gallon. She lived in that for a good 7 years, before I actually did research. She now live in a 75 gallon. If you are wondering why she is alone, it is because, when I first got her, she was attempted to be paired multiple times, and she ate the other fish.

I personally think fish are also somewhat hard to care for, despite lots of people saying they are good begginer pets.

So, I don’t think there really should be begginer pets. I think a better alternative would be family pets that the child can help with, but is not entirely responsible for.

Thanks for reading this! Make sure to vote!

Plants.

Spoiler

:) I totally agree with you. And what I meant as begginer pets, is how it is kind of commonly used, as a young child’s first pet, kind of like an “expirement, to see if they are ready”

I do think people can definetly have their first pet, and do a great job caring for it.

Plants are great <3

I agree w/ ^^, plants are great beginner "pets"!

I think people should let their children care for plants, and based on that, gauge their responsibility to judge if they would be responsible and dedicated enough to an actual pet.

I think none, but if you *had* to, it would be a fish.

I have a very confusing opinion, lol!

I think if i MUST pick a living thing for a beginner pet, it would be a plant, however only if they will be watered and won't be left to die, because in the end, a plant is a living thing too.

I also think any pet can be a "first" pet, ( not a recommended beginner pet )  as long as the person who's going to take care of it is  responsible, has done tons of research, has a fund, etc.

Was that confusing?

i dont really believe in a "beginer pet" as all pets take work, time and dedecation. sure some might be easier such as a fish compared to owning an equine (specifically horses). But in all there is not really a beginner pet imo

plants are great

No offense to plants ofc, but it's better they die than an actual animal who can feel pain and such

Plants are living, but they aren't 'living beings' and they don't have feelings (no offense plants, I hope I didn't hurt the plants feelings :3)

Anyway lol I getcha :3

Makes sense what you are saying

Well, I said other, because there is a great pet that is very underrated.

ROCKS.

Honestly, I'm serious. They can't die, and if somebody is willing to give them food and water everyday, and cleans a rock's enclosure, they can most likely take care of a living being.

gasps offensive jkjk, Yeah, I do agree that it's better than an animal that feels pain, but still I think that even a plant shouldn't be left to die, if you get what I'm saying?

Anyway lol I getcha :3

Makes sense what you are saying

I think any of the animals listed can be good beginner pets. Owning a dog is definitely more challenging than owning a hamster, but that doesn't mean someone should own a hamster before getting a dog. Owning a hamster in no way prepares you for a owning a dog. What DOES prepare you for owning a dog is endless research and practical experience (e.g walking someone else's dog), which anyone can do, whether they're a beginner or whether they've owned every other pet out there.
