I'll start w/ one humorous and one serious:
My serious one is that I personally think that Syrian Hamsters should have stayed as lab rats and not become pets. They need so much it's impossible to even imagine a time where most people could give a Syrian hamster the amount of space it needs, I mean some cages take up more space than a herd of three or 4 GPs! That's very big and I think if it's unrealistic to expect that most people will give a Syrian hamster that amount of space they shouldn't have been released to the pet trade at all.
My less serious one, and coincidentally also involving Syrians, I don't like them. Not exactly not like them, but I really dislike all Syrian hamsters that aren't Dove or a European Black bear (very big floofy black hamster.) I especially don't like cream, especially cream banded, sorry.

serious: I get why everyone says to #adoptdontshop, and i obviously support that. However, I think if there aren’t any breeders/hamsters up for adoption near you, it should be okay, and even encouraged, to buy from a pet store such as pet smart. This is because, after waiting for a while, ofc, and not finding and hamsters for adoption near you, wouldn’t it be a good thing to at least give a hamster a good life?
Ik how its supporting pet smart and all but I think the animal’s life is what matters, and not really whether you’re supporting some store or not.
less serious one: HOW DO ROBOS MOVE SO FAST ROBOS CAN MOVE AT THE SPEED OF LIGHT AND NO ONE CAN TELL ME OTHERWISE

I know people sometimes hate me when I say this, but its about adopting. You cant save everyone. And sure, that's true, but a lot of people are convinced that they can and that if people stopped having that mindset all animals would be saved. So yes, one life is important. But every animal from a pet shop is being saved, too. And yes, they are making room for another animal to have to suffer. Yes, I consider it unethical, but people should not be shamed or feel ashamed-ever- for buying a hamster (Im not gon get in to other animals).

I find it weird that Chinese hamsters have tails. I don't know what it is about a hamster with a long tail, but they just freak me out!

I’m not nessacarily sure if this is unpopular, but personally I don’t think hamsters should have been domesticated, especially syrians. As much as I love them, it is hard very hard to satisfy them, and provide what they need to really thrive. I’m not saying they cannot thrive in captivity, I’m just saying a lot of people don’t have enough space, or money to provide that.

See how respectful I was up there?
But in all seriousness, this is more of an opinion thread and will likely (at most) be a kind debate with others stepping in if it gets out of hand ![]()

Syrians shouldn’t have been bred to have ridiculously long hair. Buddy used to get his hair caught in his teeth to the point I would have to untangle it when he was cleaning himself, he also seemed to be bothered by things getting caught. Ha also tripped on it once. I just feel like it is crazy high maintenance, and it you can’t be tending to it constantly, things can go wrong. But then, buddy’s fur was like 2 inches long... Please don’t get mad at me for this...
