Chapter 4

 

This can’t be happening! Mango screamed, but it was dark as his scream echoed through darkness, the random roborovski hamster, that looked just like him, just sitting there, dying. Mango watched as its breathing got more dramatic and slower, tears running down his eyes. The random hamster took on last breath...

 

“Mango! Wake up! Mango!” He could hear Autumn yell, she was freaking out. I looked around, it was late at night, I was laying on her lap, I got up and hopped off her lap, I went to run around when she grabbed me and picked me up. “Mango, what happened?!” She had tears in her eyes. “I thought you had died, you were taking such deep, shallow breaths, it scared me Mango!” She cried.

 

“Come on, Mango” she placed me in my carrier, I tried to get out. “Somethings wrong with you, we need to go to the vet, Mango!” She booped my nose to get me to stop. But i’m fine, I was just dreaming!! What was with that dream anyways?... Mango tried to figure out what that dream could have meant, he curled up in a little ball in the carrier and tried to sleep, the carrier swooshing and slaying around, he finally got a little sleep for a moment...

 

Sorry this chapter was sooo short, I needed to write quickly as I just got a new gecko haha!

Chapter 5

 

I sighed as Autumn rushed him to the vet “Don’t worry, Mango!! You’ll be better soon!! I promise!!” She promised, I rolled his eyes. I was fine!! I just had a bad dream, thats all!!  “Autumn, explain to me what happened?” Said the mom, she sounded worried. I loved being in a family that actually cared about me! But they were being a little... whats the word?.. DRAMATIC?

 

“He-he randomly passed out on my leg and j-just sat there, and he started taking deep, slow breaths! And then he woke up and he jumped of my lap!” She cried. I looked up at her from the carrier. I’m gonna be fine!! I wish I could tell her that, but humans, for some reason, can’t understand other animals! 

 

We got out of the car and she took me into the pet doctor, and there was sooo many animals!! “What is that?! Parents, what is that!?” Barked a dog. “Yum” meowed a cat. I shook with fear, these animals could chomp me down if I’m even relatively close to them, they are dangerous, why do humans own them?! I looked around for other hamsters, but saw nothing but cats and dogs, and a parakeet! I looked up at Autumn, we were sitting there for FOREVER!

 

I groomed myself for a little bit as the animals and their humans shuffled around the room, one person, who was the doctor, kept coming into the room, saying a name, and animals would go in there! I knew what it meant... she’s gonna have me killed, isn’t she!! I thought, some animals came out of there, some did not... that room is a death trap, a DEATH TRAP!!! I aggressively tried to get out of my carrier. “Mango, calm down, its okay Mango!” Autumn said with a comforting voice, but I knew what she was doing.

 

Autumn put her hand in there to comfort me and I bit her hand, I jumped off the chair I was sitting on and ran out the wall-hole, and ran outside. Autumn chased after me, but I found a little mouse hole I slid into. I’m not getting killed today!! I heard her yell after me “Mango! No, Mango, please come back! Mango!!” She cried, but I wasn’t coming out! There was no way I was gonna let anyone kill me! I ran deeper into the mouse hole until I could no longer hear Autumn, until I sat down and rested my sore feet.

 

 I’ll miss Autumn... but she tried to kill me... she’s evil! I thought to myself, I walked over to the hole entrance and she wasn’t there, she must have given up. Good. I scrambled back into the hole and looked around. Guess this is my home now...

Chapter 6 

 

I opened my eyes, and looked around. I was surrounded by grey fuzzy things. I focused to see wild mice staring at me. I hopped onto my feet. “Don’t hurt me, I’ll leave! I’m sorry I am in your territory!” I squeaked. They just stared at me, until a smaller one stepped foward and squeaked “I’m confused, what kinda mouse are you?“

 

“Back up!” A large mouse whacked his tail into the small ones paws as the small one stumbled back. “Thats no mouse, its a hamster.” He squeaked as the mice gasped. “What are you doing here?! Your a DESERT animal!!” Squeaked the small female mouse. I ducked his head down as the mice started complaining and freaking out. “Mommy, are we gonna die?!” Squeaked a baby mouse to the small female mouse, she wrapped her tail around the baby.

 

“Get out of here!” Squeaked mice. “You don’t belong here, go where you belong!” The mice started getting aggressive, I was shaking, trying to look for a way out as the mice surrounded me. “Stop it, all of you!!” Squeaked the female mouse, she hissed and growled until all the mice went to the side, I saw a opportunity to slip out and took it, charging out of the mouse hole and running, none of the mice could match my speed.

 

I ran, and ran. I could here the female screaming for me to come back, but I kept running until her cries were no more. I missed Autumn, I wanted my home back, my wheel, my tunnels. Why did she want me dead? I questioned myself. Maybe... I was wrong... I shook my head, it was for the best.

 

All the sudden, I saw a car heading towards me! I charged out of the way as the car stopped, I shook, trying to dig in concrete under a metal skinny tree. All the sudden I felt something pick me up, I turned around and I realized who had just picked me up.

 

“MOM THIS IS UNBELIEVABLE OMG MOM ITS HIM MOOOM I FOUND HIM!!” She screamed, he recognized her voice and scent, Autumn had found him again! He struggled away, but she wouldn’t let go. “MANGO, MANGO, MANGO!! CALM DOWN!! I’M NOT GONNA HURT YOU, I PROMISE!!” Thats exactly what someone who wanted me dead would say!! I managed to jump out of her hands and run away, she chased after me as I dug under a rock, I sat there for a moment, wondering if I should come out, until the rock was lifted and she grabbed me again, I squeajed loudly and bit her hard, she yelled and almost dropped me.

 

“Mango, please stop! Please come home! I miss you!” Stop trying to alure me into your trap, you dumb siren! I jumped out of her hand again and ran so fast, I stopped hearing her screaming. I sat and rested for a moment until I felt a pressure on my back, the pain was indescribable. “I caught a mouse, Goldenstar!” I heard a cat meow, “Congratulations, Mangopelt! You caught a mangy mouse!” Spat another cat, obviously sarcastic.

 

I felt the pressure on my flank lighten as the cats argued, I tried to slip away until I felt claws start to go into my back. “Hey, get out of here you dumb mangy cats!” Screamed Autumn, coming out of the shadows. “Let go of my hamster!” All the sudden the pressure was lifted. “Twolegs!” Screamed the cats as they tore off, I just layed there, bleeding. I felt Autumn lift up my body, I felt limp, I started to fall asleep...
 

 

Okay no Mango doesn’t die, he’s okay! I said it wont be sad but it was kinda sad, the rest wont be sad though! It will get better!

Chapter 7 

 

I woke up in a humans hand, I didn’t know where I was. Are they gonna kill me?! I squeaked and tried to get out of their grip. “Okay, so you claim your hamster escaped then... got attacked by cats?” The human asked, I tried to bite them but failed, they finally let go of me and put me in a bowl.

 

“Yes, and could you be more gentle with him?” I heard Autumn say, right then I realized where she had taken me. I won’t die tonight! I leaped into the side of the bowl, knocking it over, the doctor-human jumped away yelling. All the sudden I was lifted by Autumn. “Its okay, Mango! Once we are home you will get a nice yummy treat, but only if you are well behaved!” Autumn yelled, fine, I’ll try to cooperate, but I’m not dying! I squeaked as she placed him in the bowl. “He’ll be fine, he just needs to heal.” The doctor said.

 

“Yes, but the scratches aren’t all that worries me! Just before we left he was sitting on my leg, when he passed out and almost died, then woke back up! Do you know what that means?” The doctor looked at me and them looked back at Autumn. “Isn’t that just how they sleep?” He asked, looking down at his chartboard thingy. “Well, no! Imagine your dog or cat is laying on you then all the sudden starts breathing heavier and slower and goes limp and cold!” He rolled his eyes. “A hamster is just a rodent, its fine. Just keep it in its cage and feed it pellets and its fine!”

 

Mango felt his flank go hot. I do not live in a “cage” and I hate pellets, and maybe I’m not fine, just because I’m small doesn’t mean I’m not mighty!! He stared at the human then started grooming himself, he could sense Autumns anger as well. Autumns mom snapped at the doctor-human “Your being useless, I really hope you don’t expect us to pay for this because you’ve been nothing but useless and rude! As a matter of fact-“ Her mom was interrupted by Autumn “I care about my hamster! And I’m HIGHLY dissapointed in this vet!” She grabbed my carrier, placed me in, and stormed out.

 

I looked around at all the animals again, as the humans were yelling and arguing. Their were dogs barking, cats meowing. “I don’t wanna go to da doctor!!” Howled a dog. “No, no, no, no! Stop it!” Meowed a cat as she was dragged into the room. I ran to the back of the carrier and curled up, I was overwhelmed, and that doctor was so mean! Nothing like doctor-hamsters! I tried my best to try to go to sleep as I heard those humans yell, I just wanted to escape...

Okay guys, sorry I haven’t written the next chapter in forever, but here you go!

 

Chapter 8

 

”Mango, where are you?” Autumns gentle voice echoed through my cage. I sighed. “Mango, I need you to come out, I am worried about you, I need to make sure you are okay!” She sighed.

 

I walked out of my hide to see her staring at me. “Hey, little boy. I am sorry I have been a bad mom lately, I promise I’ll make it up to you.” She handed me one of my favorite treats! I grabbed it and started nibbling it down. She chuckled.

 

”Mango, your the best. I am sorry I have been so busy lately, I haven’t held you since the vet trip!” She looked down, she looked really sad. I wanted to cheer her up, maybe I should make her something!

 

I ran over to a empty sunflower seed shell, and bit off a small piece of orchard grass hay, and placed a small pellet in the seed, and tied it with the hay. 

 

Any human would be lucky to have a beautiful piece of artwork like this! I went up to the glass, waiting for her to put her hand in the cage. She did, I cautiously came up and placed the thing in her hand, and jumped off as she lifted her hand, so she would see the toy I made her.

 

“Aww, Mango, this is adorable!” She squeaked. “You are the BEST hamster ever!”

 

I went back to eating his treat, and Autumn walked away from the cage, placing the toy down on a platform next to her sleepy rock. She slipped into her rock (Ikr? What kind of creature sleeps in a rock? Humans...) and drifted to sleep.

 

I started running on my wheel, I was glad Autumn seemed to be feeling better, and I forgive her for taking me to the doctor-human. I loved running on my wheel, and feeling the breeze go through my fur.

 

A seed was also on my wheel and it was clinking on the wheel, making it not-so-silent. It woke Autumn up and she slipped out of her rock and popped her hand in there. “Stupid seed.” She picked it up and threw it in the trash. “Goodnight, Mango.” She went back to her rock.

I walked into my hide, and decided it was time to work on my tunnel. I started digging down and found my food stash. I am glad Autumn protects me, or some rival hamster may steal my food! She is a good mom...

Chapter 9

 

Autumn slipped back out of her rock, I watched her as she started messing with her fur, and changing her coverings. Humans arethe weirdest, why do they were coverings? And why do they only have fur on their heads? Some don’t even have that? The great thing is that they rock that look! But the sun was getting brighter and brighter, this just made humans more happy and active.

 

I should probably go scavenge for food now. I ran around, finding little pieces of food everywhere. I wanted Autumns attention but she was too busy, so I just decided to go to bed for now. I stumbled into my hide...

I was awoken by a sound, Autumn was back! But she would probably “eat dinner” before playing with me. But no, she just came straight up and let out a wail. Whats wrong with Autumn? I started climbing up my bars to get a better look at her. I wish she could understand me. She looked at me.

 

“Mango, what’s wrong with me?” She sobbed. “Everybody at school hates me!” She put her face in a pillow. I felt really bad for her. She deserves as much love as she gives me. Maybe I should make her another gift! But thne she opened my door and put her hand down, I guess I can come out and comfort her first!

 

“I’m sorry for startling you, Mango. People are jerks. Is there actually any good in this world? Well, there is, you!” She pet his head. “How come there are so many nice people like on hamsterhideout that you meet, but everyone in reality is jerks!” She continued to sob, the tears were pouring down her face.

 

I ran across her arms, not sure what to do. With hamsters we just tell each other to “man up!” then we kill them as they are vulnerable, but I couldn’t talk to Autumn, and I can’t talk to her. Let me see... I walked off her hands but she just picked me back up! Maybe she needs a hammy hug? I pressed my side to her belly and closed my eyes, this is better when its with actual hamsters but it will do.

 

I felt her pet my head. “I just couldn’t have a better hamster, a better pet, could I?” She scooped me up and gently put me in. “I need to eat dinner now, Mango, see you later!” She walked down the stairs. I walked into my hide. I made Autumn feel better! Now I should make her some aRtZ!!

 

I broke a cashew in half and then I cut out a hole, and placed a green seed it there. She would love it! It looks like a little avacado! I will wait ‘till she comes back...
